What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a Media Relations Specialist?
A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field is typically required. Some employers accept English or business degrees if combined with relevant PR experience. The degree must demonstrate specialized knowledge in communications theory and practice.
Do employers sponsor visas for entry-level media relations roles?
Entry-level sponsorship is less common but possible at large agencies or corporations with established immigration programs. Most sponsored positions require 2-3 years of experience demonstrating specialized communications skills. Consider starting with agencies that have international client bases.
How to find Media Relations Specialist jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Media Relations Specialist jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers. Focus on PR agencies, tech companies, healthcare organizations, and multinational corporations that frequently hire communications professionals. These roles typically qualify for H-1B, O-1, or TN visas depending on your background and the position requirements.
How do I prove Media Relations Specialist is a specialty occupation?
Document that the role requires specialized communications knowledge like crisis management, media strategy development, and stakeholder relations. Provide job descriptions emphasizing bachelor's degree requirements and advanced communications skills beyond general marketing or administrative tasks.

Yes, freelance work can demonstrate specialized skills if well-documented. Maintain detailed records of client projects, campaign results, and specific communications strategies used. However, you'll still need a full-time employer willing to sponsor your H-1B petition.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Media Relations Specialist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
