Oncology Registered Nurse Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Oncology registered nurses qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship as nursing is recognized as a specialty occupation requiring specialized medical knowledge. Most employers require passing the NCLEX-RN and obtaining state licensure before sponsorship, with many hospitals willing to sponsor experienced oncology nurses due to nationwide shortages in specialized cancer care units. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as an Oncology Registered Nurse
Target Magnet Hospitals and Cancer Centers
Major cancer centers like MD Anderson, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Magnet-designated hospitals frequently sponsor H-1B visas for specialized oncology nurses due to critical staffing shortages in cancer care.
Emphasize Oncology Certifications
OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or CBCN certifications demonstrate specialty knowledge that strengthens your H-1B petition. Many employers prefer candidates with oncology-specific credentials beyond basic RN licensure.
Highlight Chemotherapy Administration Experience
Experience with chemotherapy protocols, central line management, and cancer symptom assessment shows specialized skills that justify H-1B sponsorship over hiring local general medical nurses.
Research State Nursing License Requirements
Each state has different nursing license requirements for international nurses. Some require additional coursework or English proficiency tests before you can practice while on H-1B status.
Network Through Professional Organizations
Join the Oncology Nursing Society and attend conferences where cancer centers recruit. Many hospitals discover international talent through professional networking rather than traditional job applications.

Find Oncology Registered Nurse JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do I need a nursing degree to get H-1B sponsorship as an oncology nurse?
Yes, you need a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or foreign equivalent, plus current RN licensure. Most employers also prefer oncology experience or certification. A 3-year nursing degree from outside the U.S. typically requires credential evaluation to confirm it meets U.S. bachelor's degree standards for H-1B eligibility.
Which visa types work best for international oncology nurses?
H-1B is most common for oncology nurses, with high approval rates due to specialty occupation status. EB-3 green cards are also popular since nursing qualifies as a professional worker category. TN visas work for Canadian/Mexican nurses, while E-3 applies to Australian nurses with BSN degrees.
Do hospitals typically sponsor visas for oncology nurses?
Yes, major hospitals and cancer centers frequently sponsor oncology nurses due to severe shortages in specialized cancer care. Magnet hospitals, academic medical centers, and dedicated cancer facilities like NCI-designated centers are most likely to handle visa sponsorship for qualified international nurses.
How to find Oncology Registered Nurse jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Oncology Registered Nurse positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to search specialized healthcare employers including cancer centers, major hospitals, and medical research institutions. These facilities commonly sponsor H-1B, TN, and EB-3 visas for qualified oncology nurses. Focus your search on large healthcare systems and academic medical centers that regularly hire international nursing professionals with oncology expertise.
Can I work as an oncology nurse while my H-1B is pending?
Only if you're already in valid H-1B status with another employer and filing a transfer. Otherwise, you cannot work until your H-1B is approved. Some nurses maintain F-1 status and use OPT authorization while awaiting H-1B decisions, but this requires careful timing and legal compliance.
What oncology experience do sponsors expect for visa approval?
Most employers prefer 2-3 years of oncology nursing experience, including chemotherapy administration, symptom management, and patient education. Experience with specific cancer types (hematology, solid tumors) or settings (inpatient, outpatient infusion) strengthens applications. New graduates may qualify if they have oncology clinical rotations and relevant certifications.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Oncology Registered Nurse jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
