Pediatric Surgeon Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Pediatric surgeons rank among the most sponsorship-ready specialists in U.S. medicine. Hospitals filing H-1B or O-1 petitions for surgical subspecialties treat this as a high-priority hire, and cap-exempt status at nonprofit children's hospitals removes the lottery entirely. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Verify your medical credentials match ECFMG standards
Your foreign medical degree must be ECFMG-certified before any U.S. employer can file a visa petition. Complete this step early, the review process adds weeks to your sponsorship timeline if it runs concurrently with I-129 preparation.
Target nonprofit children's hospitals specifically
Academic children's hospitals and nonprofit pediatric centers qualify as cap-exempt H-1B employers. That means no lottery, no October 1 start-date constraint, and year-round filing, a structural advantage most surgical subspecialty candidates overlook when job searching.
Confirm your subspecialty SOC code before offer negotiation
DOL classifies pediatric surgeons under a distinct SOC code that determines your prevailing wage tier. Run the OFLC Wage Search before your offer conversation so you can confirm the employer's proposed wage meets the Level I or Level II threshold for your metro area.
Use Migrate Mate to file your LCA and H-1B petition
Once your offer letter is signed, Migrate Mate handles the DOL Labor Condition Application and USCIS I-129 filing at a flat fee. For pediatric surgical roles, subspecialty documentation and specialty occupation evidence are included in the filing package.
Request premium processing if your program start date is firm
Pediatric surgery fellowship transitions often have hard start dates. USCIS premium processing upgrades standard adjudication to 15 business days. Ask your employer to include it in the petition budget before the offer is finalized, not after filing.
Document your fellowship training as specialty occupation evidence
USCIS scrutinizes whether pediatric surgery constitutes a specialty occupation requiring a specific degree. Your fellowship completion certificate, board eligibility status, and hospital privileging letter collectively build that evidentiary record, gather all three before your employer files.

Find Pediatric Surgeon JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Which visa types are most common for pediatric surgeons seeking U.S. sponsorship?
H-1B is the primary pathway, and most pediatric surgeons qualify for cap-exempt status because children's hospitals and academic medical centers are nonprofit or affiliated with universities. O-1A is a strong alternative for surgeons with fellowship awards, published research, or named lectureships. J-1 waiver pathways exist but carry two-year home-residency obligations that require separate processing through a state or federal agency waiver program.
Does my foreign medical degree qualify me for H-1B sponsorship as a pediatric surgeon?
Yes, provided your degree is ECFMG-certified and your subspecialty training is documented. USCIS requires that the position normally requires a specific bachelor's-level or higher degree in a relevant field. For pediatric surgery, the combination of your MD or equivalent plus completed surgical fellowship satisfies the specialty occupation standard. Your employer's attorney will need your ECFMG certificate, medical license, and fellowship completion records to build that case.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take for a pediatric surgeon role?
For cap-exempt employers, standard H-1B processing runs three to five months after the DOL certifies the Labor Condition Application, which typically takes seven business days. Premium processing reduces USCIS adjudication to 15 business days. Fellowship-to-attending transitions with a fixed start date almost always warrant premium processing. Cap-subject employers must file in April for an October 1 start, which compresses the planning window significantly.
Can a pediatric surgery fellowship program sponsor my H-1B directly?
Fellowship programs at nonprofit teaching hospitals can sponsor H-1B status, but the employer of record must be the hospital or academic institution, not the fellowship program itself. Confirm that the sponsoring entity holds 501(c)(3) status or has a university affiliation before assuming cap-exempt treatment applies. Some community hospital fellowship programs are cap-subject, which changes your filing window entirely.
Where can I find pediatric surgeon roles with confirmed visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists pediatric surgery positions from employers with active H-1B and O-1 filing history, filtered by visa type so you're not guessing about sponsorship willingness. For independent verification, you can cross-reference employer LCA filings through the DOL's OFLC disclosure database, which shows certified wage levels and job locations by employer name. Both methods narrow your search to employers who have already navigated the sponsorship process for surgical subspecialties.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Pediatric Surgeon jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
