How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Registered Radiologic Technologist
Highlight ARRT certification and specialized modalities
Emphasize your ARRT registration and any specialty certifications in CT, MRI, mammography, or nuclear medicine. These credentials demonstrate the specialized knowledge required for H-1B qualification.
Target hospitals and imaging centers over clinics
Large hospitals and specialized imaging facilities are more likely to sponsor visas than small clinics. They have established HR processes for immigration and higher patient volumes justifying specialized roles.
Address the degree requirement strategically
If you have an associate degree, document extensive clinical experience and continuing education. The three-for-one rule lets work experience substitute for missing education years in some cases.
Emphasize patient safety and technical expertise
Frame your role around complex medical decision-making, radiation safety protocols, and advanced imaging techniques rather than routine tasks that don't require specialized knowledge for visa purposes.
Consider critical access hospitals in rural areas
Rural hospitals often struggle to fill radiologic technologist positions and may be more willing to sponsor visas. They can also qualify for J-1 waiver programs in underserved areas.
Get familiar with U.S. licensing requirements early
Research state licensing requirements for radiologic technologists, as most states require ARRT certification or equivalent. Start the credentialing process before your visa interview to demonstrate commitment.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do radiologic technologists qualify for H-1B visas?
Yes, but the role must require specialized knowledge beyond routine imaging tasks. Employers typically need to demonstrate the position involves advanced modalities, complex protocols, or supervisory responsibilities. ARRT certification and a bachelor's degree strengthen the case, though associate degrees with extensive experience may qualify.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship as a radiologic technologist?
Most successful H-1B cases involve a bachelor's degree in radiologic technology, medical imaging, or related health sciences. Associate degrees in radiologic technology can work if combined with extensive clinical experience and specialized certifications, using the three-years-experience-for-one-year-education equivalency rule.
Which healthcare employers sponsor radiologic technologists?
Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and specialized imaging facilities are most likely to sponsor. Examples include Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Kaiser Permanente, and major university hospitals. Smaller clinics rarely have the resources or justification for visa sponsorship.
Can I get a Green Card as a radiologic technologist?
Yes, through the EB-3 skilled worker category, which typically requires PERM labor certification. Processing takes 2-4 years depending on your country of birth. Some radiologic technologists in underserved areas may qualify for EB-2 National Interest Waiver if they can demonstrate exceptional ability.
Do I need ARRT certification before applying for jobs?
ARRT certification significantly improves your sponsorship chances and is required for licensing in most U.S. states. While some employers may sponsor candidates working toward certification, having it upfront demonstrates you meet professional standards and can begin work immediately upon visa approval.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Registered Radiologic Technologist jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
