Robotics Engineer Jobs in USA with Visa Sponsorship
Robotics engineer is one of the stronger engineering titles for visa sponsorship. The role clearly qualifies as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes, and employers in manufacturing, automotive, defense, and tech actively sponsor for these positions. TN visas work for Canadian and Mexican engineers, and O-1 visas are an option for those with exceptional credentials. Demand consistently outpaces domestic supply, which works in your favor. For detailed occupation requirements, see the O*NET profile.

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Robotics Engineer to support a new automation project focused on collaborative robotics (Cobots) and advanced ROS-based integration. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in ROS integration, AI algorithm implementation, and system integration with and without PLC environments.
A Master's degree in Robotics or a related field is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support collaborative robot (Cobot) integration and deployment.
- Design and implement ROS-based architectures for robotic systems.
- Integrate ROS with AI algorithms for perception, motion planning, and intelligent task execution.
- Perform ROS integration with PLC-controlled systems as well as standalone (non-PLC) environments.
- Develop, test, and validate robotic software solutions.
- Troubleshoot integration issues across hardware and software components.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful project execution.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Master's degree in Robotics (preferred).
Hands-on experience with Collaborative Robots (Cobots).
Strong experience with Robot Operating System (ROS/ROS2) integration.
Experience integrating ROS with AI/ML algorithms.
Experience working with PLC systems and industrial automation environments.
Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for robotics development.
Strong debugging and system integration skills.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Robotics Engineer
Distinguish your profile from general robotics job seekers
Robotics engineer roles typically require hands-on experience with specific hardware platforms - not just simulation. Demonstrate that you have worked with real robots, whether industrial arms (FANUC, ABB), mobile platforms (Clearpath, Boston Dynamics Spot), or custom systems built during graduate research.
Target companies with active robotics deployments
Amazon Robotics, Locus Robotics, Zebra Technologies (Fetch Robotics), and Intuitive Surgical are actively hiring robotics engineers and have H-1B sponsorship histories. Focus on companies deploying robots at scale rather than pure R&D shops, as deployment teams often face more immediate hiring pressure.
Combine ROS expertise with a systems integration mindset
Proficiency in ROS/ROS 2 is expected, but employers especially value robotics engineers who can integrate perception, planning, and control into reliable production systems. If you can bridge the gap between research prototypes and deployed products, your profile becomes significantly stronger.
Leverage graduate research to build an O-1 case
If you have published conference papers at ICRA, IROS, CoRL, or RSS, or hold patents related to robotics, you may qualify for O-1 extraordinary ability status. O-1 visas are not subject to the H-1B cap and have no annual lottery, giving you an alternative path to work authorization.
Explore agricultural and logistics robotics for less competition
Warehouse robotics (pick-and-place, goods-to-person systems) and agricultural robotics (autonomous harvesting, crop monitoring) are high-growth areas where the talent pool is smaller than autonomous vehicles. Companies like Agility Robotics and Blue River Technology (John Deere) work in these spaces.

How are robotics engineer and software engineer H-1B petitions different?
Robotics engineer roles often span multiple engineering disciplines - mechanical, electrical, and software - which can actually strengthen the specialty occupation argument since the interdisciplinary nature requires advanced training. The SOC code used may vary depending on whether the role is primarily software (motion planning) or hardware (mechatronics). Employers typically work with immigration attorneys to select the most appropriate classification.
Do I need a PhD to be a sponsored robotics engineer?
A PhD is not required, but it is common in robotics because many roles involve research-level problems in perception, manipulation, or planning. A master's degree with strong project experience is sufficient for most industry positions. A PhD is most advantageous for roles at research labs, autonomous vehicle companies, and positions that involve developing novel algorithms.
Can robotics engineers work in manufacturing on a visa?
Yes. Manufacturing facilities that use industrial robots, automated guided vehicles, and other automation systems regularly employ robotics engineers on H-1B visas. These roles typically do not involve ITAR restrictions unless the manufacturing is for defense applications. Automotive, electronics, pharmaceutical, and consumer goods manufacturing are all accessible sectors for visa holders.
What programming languages are most important for robotics engineer sponsorship roles?
C++ and Python are the core languages for most robotics engineering positions. C++ is essential for real-time control, perception pipelines, and performance-critical systems. Python is used for prototyping, machine learning, and ROS scripting. Familiarity with embedded C for microcontrollers and MATLAB/Simulink for modeling and simulation is also frequently requested.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Robotics Engineer jobs?
When a U.S. employer sponsors a foreign worker for a work visa, they are legally required to pay at least the "prevailing wage" — the average wage paid to workers in the same occupation, in the same geographic area, with similar experience. This is set by the Department of Labor to prevent employers from hiring foreign workers at below-market rates. The prevailing wage varies significantly by role, location, and experience level — for example, a robotics engineer in California will have a different prevailing wage than the same role in a smaller state. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search.
