Target hospitals and imaging centers with H-1B history
Large hospital systems like HCA Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, and Ascension regularly sponsor ultrasonographers. Check DOL disclosure data to identify employers with recent sonography LCA filings.
Emphasize specialized imaging credentials
ARDMS certification in multiple specialties (cardiac, vascular, OB/GYN) strengthens your specialty occupation case. Highlight advanced certifications that require specific educational backgrounds and clinical training.
Focus on bachelor's degree requirement positions
Many ultrasonographer roles accept associate degrees, which don't qualify for H-1B. Target positions explicitly requiring a four-year degree in diagnostic medical sonography or radiologic sciences.
Consider rural and underserved area opportunities
Rural hospitals and federally qualified health centers often struggle to fill imaging positions. These employers may be more willing to sponsor visas for qualified international candidates.
Leverage telemedicine and remote reading roles
Some employers offer hybrid positions combining on-site scanning with remote image interpretation. These roles often require higher qualifications and may justify visa sponsorship more easily.
Explore specialty medical device companies
Ultrasound equipment manufacturers like GE Healthcare and Philips hire clinical specialists for training and support roles. These positions typically require advanced degrees and clinical experience.

Find Ultrasonographer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do ultrasonographers qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship?
Yes, ultrasonographers can qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography, radiologic technology, or related field. The role must be classified as a specialty occupation, which means employers need to specify degree requirements in job postings and demonstrate the position's complexity requires specialized education.
What degree requirements do employers typically set for visa sponsorship?
Employers seeking to sponsor ultrasonographers typically require a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography, radiologic technology, or health sciences. Some accept related degrees in physics or engineering combined with specialized sonography training. ARDMS certification is usually required alongside the degree. Associate degree positions rarely qualify for H-1B sponsorship.
Which types of employers most commonly sponsor ultrasonographers?
Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and specialty imaging clinics most frequently sponsor ultrasonographers for work visas. Major employers include HCA Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Mayo Clinic, and Cleveland Clinic. Smaller private practices rarely sponsor due to cost and complexity, while rural hospitals sometimes sponsor to fill critical shortages.
How to find Ultrasonographer jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Ultrasonographer jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting healthcare professionals with sponsoring employers. Focus your search on hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, and medical clinics that commonly sponsor H-1B, EB-2, or EB-3 visas for skilled medical technologists. These healthcare facilities often have ongoing needs for qualified ultrasonographers and established sponsorship processes.
How do ARDMS certifications affect visa sponsorship eligibility?
ARDMS certifications strengthen visa applications by demonstrating specialized knowledge and meeting professional standards. Multiple certifications in areas like cardiac, vascular, or OB/GYN sonography help establish the role's specialty occupation status. However, certifications alone don't qualify for H-1B, the position must still require a relevant bachelor's degree as a minimum qualification.
Can international ultrasonographers work while their visa application is pending?
It depends on your current status. F-1 students can potentially use CPT or OPT for employment authorization. Those already in the U.S. on other work visas may qualify for H-1B portability rules. New applicants outside the U.S. typically cannot work until their visa is approved and they enter the country, unless they qualify for premium processing.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Ultrasonographer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
