Actuarial Analyst Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a actuarial analyst in Ohio?
The path to becoming an actuarial analyst in Ohio starts with a quantitative bachelor's degree followed by passing at least one or two preliminary exams through the Casualty Actuarial Society or the Society of Actuaries. Ohio does not issue a state actuarial license, but Ohio employers strongly favor candidates who are actively sitting for exams and maintaining Validation by Educational Experience credits. Most Ohio insurers and consulting firms hire directly from universities with strong actuarial programs such as Ohio State, Xavier, and Kent State.
Which companies hire actuarial analysts in Ohio?
Employers hiring actuarial analysts in Ohio right now include State of Ohio, Encova Insurance, and Medical Mutual of Ohio, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Ohio's density of property and casualty and health insurance carriers means the hiring base is broader than in most states, with opportunities at both large national carriers headquartered here and regional mutuals.
Which Ohio cities have the most actuarial analyst jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland consistently post the most actuarial analyst openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because it is home to Nationwide's headquarters and a large cluster of insurance and financial services firms, while Cincinnati draws volume from the employee benefits and health insurance sector and Cleveland from regional P&C carriers and consulting practices operating out of the northeast Ohio market.
Are there remote actuarial analyst jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields, since actuarial work is almost entirely desk-based and model-driven. About 67% of actuarial analyst openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, reflecting how broadly insurers have embraced flexible arrangements for this role. Pricing, reserving, and experience study work tend to be the functions most consistently offered on a fully remote basis.
How can I get hired as a actuarial analyst in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to actuarial internship or analyst rotational programs at Ohio's large insurance carriers before or shortly after graduation. Nationwide, Progressive, and Grange Insurance all run structured early-career actuarial programs designed for candidates with one or two exams passed but no professional experience. Completing at least one CAS or SOA preliminary exam before applying significantly improves your odds, and Ohio's active university recruiting pipelines mean on-campus career fairs at Ohio State and Xavier regularly connect students directly with hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to actuarial analyst jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to actuarial analyst jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings across insurance carriers, consulting firms, and corporate actuarial departments. Find roles that fit your exam progress and specialty interest and apply directly to the employers posting them.
