Admissions Counselor Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a admissions counselor in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania does not require a state-issued license to work as an admissions counselor. Most employers in the state require a bachelor's degree, and positions at colleges and universities often prefer candidates who have worked in student services, academic advising, or a related campus role. Earning a master's degree in higher education administration or student affairs strengthens candidacy for senior roles at Pennsylvania institutions.
Which companies hire admissions counselors in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring admissions counselors in Pennsylvania right now include Malvern Health, Temple University Health System, and Geisinger, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's density of four-year universities, community colleges, and private career schools means admissions counselor openings appear across the state year-round, with the heaviest concentration at institutions in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metro areas.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most admissions counselor jobs?
Philadelphia, Chester, and Moosic have the most admissions counselor openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its concentration of universities, medical schools, and career education campuses, while Pittsburgh's large university and healthcare system presence drives steady demand, and State College reflects the ongoing hiring needs of Penn State's flagship enrollment operations.
Are there remote admissions counselor jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since admissions counselors regularly attend campus events, college fairs, and in-person interviews. About 67% of admissions counselor openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The functions most often done remotely are virtual student outreach, application review, and counseling appointments conducted by video.
How can I get hired as a admissions counselor in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for an admissions representative or enrollment coordinator role at a Pennsylvania community college or career school, where hiring thresholds are lower than at large research universities. Pennsylvania institutions such as community colleges in the PASSHE system often hire new graduates directly into territory-based recruiter roles. Volunteering for campus visit days or working as a student ambassador during college builds practical experience, and a demonstrated ability to connect with prospective students in any customer-facing or advising role, such as academic tutoring or residence life, is a strong differentiator.
