Advanced Practice Provider Jobs in Oregon: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a advanced practice provider in Oregon?
To practice as an advanced practice provider in Oregon, you must hold a graduate degree from an accredited program and obtain licensure through the Oregon State Board of Nursing for nurse practitioners or meet Oregon Medical Board requirements for physician assistants. Nurse practitioners in Oregon practice under full practice authority, meaning no physician collaboration agreement is required after initial licensure. Prescriptive authority requires a separate DEA registration.
How much do advanced practice providers make in Oregon?
Advanced practice providers in Oregon earn a median of about $155,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $124,660 for the lowest 10% to over $194,070 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire advanced practice providers in Oregon?
Companies currently hiring advanced practice providers in Oregon include St. Charles Health System, Oregon Health & Science University, and Salem Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Oregon's federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics also represent a consistent source of advanced practice provider openings, particularly in underserved areas outside the Portland metro.
Which Oregon cities have the most advanced practice provider jobs?
Portland, Bend, and Salem have the most advanced practice provider openings in Oregon. Portland dominates the distribution because it is home to Oregon Health and Science University and several large regional health systems, while Salem and Eugene generate openings through their own hospital networks and the demand for primary and behavioral health care in mid-size population centers.
Are there remote advanced practice provider jobs in Oregon?
Yes, but they're rare. Advanced practice providers are primarily hands-on clinical roles requiring in-person patient contact, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 45% of advanced practice provider openings tied to Oregon are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are most often in telehealth psychiatry, remote chronic disease management, or utilization review roles that do not require a physical exam.
How can I get hired as a advanced practice provider in Oregon with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new graduate or residency programs, which Oregon Health and Science University and Providence Health and Services run specifically for newly licensed nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Candidates who built clinical hours as a registered nurse, medical assistant, or paramedic in Oregon often transition more easily because hiring managers recognize that background. Completing your Oregon licensure, obtaining DEA registration early, and targeting federally qualified health centers, which frequently recruit new graduates for rural or underserved settings, gives you a meaningful edge.
