Airport Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a airport manager in New York?
A bachelor's degree in aviation management, public administration, or a related field is the standard starting point for airport manager roles in New York. There is no single state-issued license for airport managers, but FAA Part 139 knowledge and familiarity with the Port Authority's operational standards are effectively required at the state's major facilities. Many candidates build their path through roles in airline operations, airfield maintenance, or airport security before moving into management.
How much do airport managers make in New York?
Airport managers in New York earn a median of about $127,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,430 for the lowest 10% to over $204,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire airport managers in New York?
Employers hiring airport managers in New York right now include Sodexo, Aimbridge Hospitality, and Unifi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's aviation sector is anchored by large public authorities and major carriers that operate across John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Albany International airports, making them consistent sources of management openings.
Which New York cities have the most airport manager jobs?
Jamaica, Queens, and New York have the most airport manager openings in New York. The New York City metro dominates because it is home to some of the busiest airports in the country, while Albany draws openings from state government aviation operations and smaller regional carriers that require full-time management staff.
Are there remote airport manager jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Airport management is fundamentally an on-site role, requiring direct oversight of airfield operations, staff, and compliance activities that cannot be done remotely. About 13% of airport manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those postings typically involve administrative, planning, or policy coordination functions rather than day-to-day terminal or airfield management.
How can I get hired as a airport manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an operations coordinator or duty manager role at one of New York's major airports or regional facilities. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey regularly recruits candidates into airport operations associate positions that develop the skills needed for advancement. Adjacent roles in airline customer operations, ground handling supervision, or airport security also provide the hands-on background New York employers expect, and candidates who add an aviation management certificate from an accredited program strengthen their applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to airport manager jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to airport manager jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the available New York listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
