Tips for Your Airport Manager Job Search
Align your resume to FAA compliance
Airport managers are evaluated heavily on regulatory knowledge. Make sure your resume calls out specific FAA Advisory Circulars, Part 139 certification experience, or TSA coordination work you've handled, not just generic operations management.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists airport manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target your search by airport classification
Job requirements differ sharply between commercial service airports, general aviation fields, and cargo hubs. Filter your search by airport type so you're not applying to roles built around infrastructure or staffing scales that don't match your background.
Quantify airside and terminal throughput
Hiring managers want to see scale. Replace vague claims with specifics: daily aircraft movements you oversaw, gate counts you managed, or the size of the ground crew you directed. Numbers specific to aviation operations stand out from generic management language.
Prepare for scenario-based safety questions
Airport manager interviews almost always include situational questions about emergency response, incursion incidents, or service disruptions. Walk through your answers using a clear action structure: what the situation was, what authority you held, and what the outcome was.
Negotiate using airport size and complexity
When discussing compensation, anchor the conversation to the operational complexity of the airport you're targeting, including runways, annual enplanements, and tenant mix. That framing positions your ask in terms the hiring committee already uses internally.
Airport Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most airport managers?
The companies hiring the most airport managers right now include H W Lochner, American Airlines, and Uber, with the largest share of openings in Texas, New York, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be strongest at mid-size commercial service airports expanding capacity or replacing retiring leadership.
How many airport manager jobs are remote?
About 10% of airport manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the largely on-site nature of airfield and terminal oversight. The sub-areas most likely to allow remote or hybrid arrangements include airport planning, grant administration, and regulatory compliance roles that don't require daily physical presence on the airfield.
How do you become an airport manager?
Start by building a foundation in aviation operations, either through a degree in aviation management or hands-on roles like operations coordinator, ramp supervisor, or airfield operations specialist. Gain direct exposure to FAA Part 139 compliance, emergency planning, and tenant coordination. Moving into an assistant airport manager position is the most common path to the top role, giving you supervisory experience before taking on full accountability.
Can you get hired as an airport manager with little experience?
Breaking in with limited direct airport management experience is possible if you can demonstrate transferable operations leadership. Candidates with backgrounds in military aviation, logistics management, or municipal facilities oversight have made successful transitions. Focus applications on smaller general aviation airports or assistant manager roles where employers are more willing to develop candidates who show strong regulatory awareness and team leadership.
What does the airport manager interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a screening call from HR or a search firm, followed by a panel interview with airport authority leadership, city or county officials, and sometimes airline representatives. Expect scenario questions on emergency response, budget management, and tenant conflicts. Finalists often present a management philosophy or short-term operational plan before a final interview with the governing board or executive director.
Where can I find and apply to airport manager jobs?
You can find and apply to airport manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and target airport type, and apply directly to each listing that fits.
