College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP)
UT San Antonio's College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP) trains students to develop solutions for complex social issues to improve the well-being of our communities. By engaging directly with the City of San Antonio, students and faculty live the college's mission to advance human health every day. The college is comprised of eight interconnected academic disciplines—criminology and criminal justice, kinesiology, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, public administration, public health, social work, and sociology and demography—as well as the Center for Community Based and Applied Health Research, the Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research, and the Institute for Health Disparities Research. Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice
The Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice is housed within the College for Health, Community and Policy and offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Master of Science (M.S.) degrees in Criminology and Criminal Justice, serving nearly 1,000 students. Our faculty are recognized regionally, nationally, and internationally for excellence in research and teaching. The department also contributes to the College's Ph.D. Program in Community and Policy, which offers advanced training to address social problems from a social ecological perspective in areas such as physical and mental health, crime and safety, poverty and socioeconomic well-being, and public policy. Position Summary and Qualifications
The Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2027. Those who conduct applied research in criminology and/or criminal justice with high potential for interdisciplinary collaboration and external funding are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching and research expectations are commensurate with Research I institutions.
The successful candidate will have:
- a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Applicants who have not yet completed their doctoral dissertations (ABD) will be considered
- demonstrated excellence in scholarly research and experience with, or the promise of grant acquisition.
- a passion for effective teaching and the ability to work with and be sensitive to the varying educational needs of our students.
- a commitment to service.
- This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
