Assistant Project Manager Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a assistant project manager job in San Francisco?
The strongest path in San Francisco is targeting the sectors that hire most heavily here: commercial construction, technology infrastructure, and healthcare expansion projects. General contractors working on Mission Bay development, tech campuses in SoMa, and hospital build-outs at UCSF and Kaiser all hire at the assistant level. Candidates with experience in Procore, Bluebeam, or BIM software stand out, and a PMP fundamentals course or CAPM credential sharpens your edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Which companies hire assistant project managers in San Francisco?
Companies currently hiring assistant project managers in San Francisco include Mercy Housing, PMA Consultants, and Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Francisco's market is shaped by a mix of large general contractors, life sciences developers, and technology firms managing complex multi-site rollouts across the Bay Area.
Are there remote assistant project manager jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though remote availability depends heavily on the sector. About 63% of assistant project manager openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, skewing toward technology and software firms rather than construction or facilities roles. The most remote-friendly tasks in this market tend to be scheduling, documentation, and vendor coordination work at tech companies headquartered in SoMa and the Financial District.
How can I get a assistant project manager job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Francisco is targeting project coordinator or administrative project roles at mid-size general contractors and real estate development firms working on the city's active construction pipeline in Mission Bay and Dogpatch. Many UCSF and SFMTA capital programs also hire entry-level project support staff. A CAPM certification, familiarity with Procore, and any internship exposure to permitting or subcontractor coordination are the practical differentiators local employers look for.
Which industries hire the most assistant project managers in San Francisco?
Most assistant project manager openings in San Francisco sit in Energy, Education, and Staffing & Recruiting, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Francisco's concentration of large-scale construction projects, major health system expansions, and technology company build-outs keeps demand for assistant-level project coordination consistently high across all three sectors.
