Behavioral Health Manager Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a behavioral health manager in Louisiana?
Most behavioral health manager roles in Louisiana require a master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field plus an active Louisiana state clinical license, typically a licensed clinical social worker credential issued by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners or a licensed professional counselor credential issued by the Louisiana LPC Board of Examiners. Candidates typically move into management after several years in direct clinical practice, then take on supervisory responsibilities within a program or unit before applying for manager-level positions.
Which companies hire behavioral health managers in Louisiana?
Louisiana behavioral health manager roles are posted by LCMC Health, Ochsner Health, and Odyssey House Louisiana and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Louisiana's large integrated health systems and its state-funded community mental health network are among the most consistent sources of manager-level openings.
Which Louisiana cities have the most behavioral health manager jobs?
New Orleans, Shreveport, and Baton Rouge have the most behavioral health manager openings in Louisiana. New Orleans and Baton Rouge drive volume through their major hospital systems, university medical centers, and dense networks of community mental health organizations, while Shreveport's concentration of regional health systems and state-affiliated programs makes it a consistent hiring market for this role.
Are there remote behavioral health manager jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're limited. About 22% of behavioral health manager openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that most manager roles involve direct staff supervision, on-site program oversight, and in-person client-facing responsibilities. The parts of the role most likely to be performed remotely are administrative functions such as documentation review, compliance reporting, and virtual team meetings.
How can I get hired as a behavioral health manager in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to enter through a direct clinical role, such as a case manager, outpatient therapist, or crisis counselor position, at a Louisiana community mental health center or hospital behavioral health unit, then pursue a team lead or clinical supervisor role once you have demonstrated clinical competency. Large Louisiana employer types including Ochsner Health, LSU Health affiliate programs, and the Louisiana Office of Behavioral Health operate training pipelines and internal promotion tracks that move strong clinicians into management. Obtaining or maintaining an active Louisiana state clinical license and pursuing a credential such as certified behavioral health case manager gives candidates a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to behavioral health manager jobs in Louisiana?
