Case Manager Jobs in Oakland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a case manager job in Oakland?
Oakland's highest hiring volume for case managers sits in behavioral health agencies, federally qualified health centers, county social services, and housing nonprofits concentrated in Uptown and East Oakland. Candidates with experience in harm reduction, housing navigation, or Medi-Cal documentation stand out here. Bilingual Spanish or Cantonese skills are a meaningful edge, given Oakland's population mix, and familiarity with Alameda County's service network gets attention from local hiring managers.
Which companies hire case managers in Oakland?
Oakland case manager roles are posted by Telecare Corporation, Lao Family Community Development, and UNITY CARE and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Oakland's employer mix skews heavily toward county agencies, community health organizations, and housing-focused nonprofits rather than large national health systems.
Are there remote case manager jobs in Oakland?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for roles requiring in-person client visits or field work. About 67% of case manager openings tied to Oakland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the remote share concentrated in utilization review, insurance-side case management, and care coordination roles that are primarily documentation-driven. Community-based and housing case management in Oakland is almost always on-site.
How can I get a case manager job in Oakland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Oakland is through Alameda County's social services programs, which regularly hire case manager assistants and eligibility workers that feed into full case manager roles. Oakland-based nonprofits in the Fruitvale and Eastlake neighborhoods often hire case aide or outreach worker positions that build direct experience. A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field, combined with any volunteer or internship hours at a local community health or housing organization, is enough to be competitive for these entry-level openings.
