RN Home Health Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a rn home health in California?
To work as an rn home health in California, you must hold an active Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing, which requires completing an accredited associate or bachelor's degree nursing program and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. Most California home health employers also expect at least one year of acute care or medical-surgical experience before hiring into a home health role, since patients are managed independently without immediate hospital backup.
How much do RN home healths make in California?
RN home healths in California earn a median of about $140,270 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $101,260 for the lowest 10% to over $213,320 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire rn home healths in California?
Employers hiring rn home healths in California right now include Sutter Health, Trinity Health, and VITAS Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large integrated health systems and dedicated home health agencies tend to hire continuously given the state's high volume of Medicare-eligible and Medi-Cal patients requiring post-acute home care.
Which California cities have the most rn home health jobs?
Fresno, Novato, and Encino have the most rn home health openings in California. Los Angeles dominates on volume because of its dense, aging population and the concentration of large home health agencies and health systems headquartered there, while San Diego and Bay Area markets reflect strong managed care enrollment and large employer footprints from systems like Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health operating across both regions.
Are there remote rn home health jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Because rn home health work is inherently hands-on and requires in-person patient visits, fully remote positions make up a small share of openings. About 0% of rn home health openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles are typically in telephonic case management, utilization review, or clinical documentation rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a rn home health in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a new-graduate residency or clinical transition program at a California health system before moving into home health. Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health operate new-grad RN programs across California that build the independent clinical judgment home health requires. Starting in a medical-surgical, telemetry, or skilled nursing facility role first is also a common bridge, since California home health agencies frequently hire from those adjacent settings once a nurse has one year of bedside experience.
Where can I find and apply to rn home health jobs in California?
You can find and apply to rn home health jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from home health agencies, health systems, and managed care employers. Find the roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
