Chief Compliance Officer Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a chief compliance officer in Iowa?
Most chief compliance officers in Iowa reach the role through a combination of a bachelor's degree in business, law, or finance, followed by years of progressively senior compliance or regulatory work within a regulated industry. Iowa does not require a state-issued license specific to the title, but employers across Des Moines financial services and Cedar Rapids healthcare systems consistently expect credentials such as the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional designation. A law degree or advanced business degree adds a competitive edge.
How much do chief compliance officers make in Iowa?
Chief compliance officers in Iowa earn a median of about $75,620 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,940 for the lowest 10% to over $114,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire chief compliance officers in Iowa?
Iowa chief compliance officer roles are posted by US Department of Veterans Affairs, Collins Aerospace, and ChildServe and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's concentration of insurance carriers, regional banks, and large health systems means demand remains steady across both the private and nonprofit sectors.
Which Iowa cities have the most chief compliance officer jobs?
Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Iowa City lead Iowa for chief compliance officer openings. Des Moines drives the majority of listings as the state's financial and insurance hub, home to a dense cluster of national carriers and regional banks, while Cedar Rapids and Iowa City contribute openings through their healthcare systems, credit unions, and university-affiliated medical organizations.
Are there remote chief compliance officer jobs in Iowa?
Yes, and more than many senior roles, because much of the work involves policy analysis, reporting, and regulatory review that can be performed remotely. About 22% of chief compliance officer openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the position. Fully remote arrangements are most common in financial services and insurance compliance, while healthcare compliance roles more often require periodic on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a chief compliance officer in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic path starts in a compliance analyst or internal audit role at one of Iowa's large financial institutions or health systems, such as those based in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, and builds toward the chief officer level over time. Entry roles in regulatory affairs, risk management, or legal operations at Iowa insurance carriers or regional banks provide the foundational exposure hiring managers expect. Earning the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional credential early and volunteering to lead a compliance sub-function accelerates the timeline considerably.
Where can I find and apply to chief compliance officer jobs in Iowa?
