Civil Engineering Intern Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a civil engineering intern in Idaho?
To work as a civil engineering intern in Idaho, you need to be enrolled in or have recently completed a civil engineering or closely related degree program at an accredited university. Idaho follows the national Engineer-in-Training pathway: passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam administered through the Idaho Board of Licensure of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors strengthens your candidacy significantly and is often completed during your final year.
Which companies hire civil engineering interns in Idaho?
Companies currently hiring civil engineering interns in Idaho include Ledcor, Big-D Construction, and Lumos & Associates, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Idaho's infrastructure expansion and development activity across the Treasure Valley and Eastern Idaho keep engineering firms consistently recruiting intern-level candidates each semester.
Which Idaho cities have the most civil engineering intern jobs?
Boise, Coeur d'Alene, and Nampa have the most civil engineering intern openings in Idaho. Boise drives the largest share of listings as the state's primary hub for private engineering consultants and state agency offices, while Idaho Falls and Pocatello generate steady demand through municipal infrastructure projects, Idaho National Laboratory-adjacent development work, and regional transportation planning.
Are there remote civil engineering intern jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. Civil engineering intern work is largely field- and site-dependent, making fully remote roles uncommon in this field. About 18% of civil engineering intern openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and most hybrid arrangements apply to drafting, data analysis, or report writing tasks rather than construction observation or surveying duties.
How can I get hired as a civil engineering intern in Idaho with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to the Idaho Transportation Department's student internship program, which recruits undergraduates from Boise State University, the University of Idaho, and Idaho State University each year. Municipal public works departments in Boise and Idaho Falls also offer seasonal positions for students with no prior work history. Building a portfolio of class projects in AutoCAD or Civil 3D and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam early signals readiness to Idaho employers even before graduation.
Where can I find and apply to civil engineering intern jobs in Idaho?
You can find and apply to civil engineering intern jobs in Idaho on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your background and availability, and apply directly to the ones that match.
