Tips for Your Client Associate Job Search
Tailor your resume to the client
Client associate roles emphasize relationship support, not just administrative tasks. Highlight specific actions you took to retain clients, resolve account issues, or coordinate between advisors and clients. Quantify outcomes where you can, such as how many accounts you managed or onboarded.
Get your Series 7 or SIE early
Many client associate postings at broker-dealers require or strongly prefer the Securities Industry Essentials exam or Series 7 license. Passing even one before you apply signals commitment and removes a common hiring barrier before employers raise it.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists client associate openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by firm type, not just title
A client associate at a registered investment advisory firm handles different tasks than one at a wirehouse or private bank. Decide whether your background fits fee-only advisory, commission-based brokerage, or institutional banking before targeting openings, so your cover letter speaks directly to the model.
Prepare for compliance screening questions
Interviewers at regulated firms routinely ask how you handled a client data error, a regulatory hold, or a suitability concern. Prepare one concrete example for each. Vague answers here raise more flags than in most other roles.
Negotiate your licensing support package
Once you have an offer, ask specifically whether the firm covers exam fees, study materials, and paid study time for licensing requirements. These benefits vary widely and rarely appear in job postings, so asking before you sign is the only way to know.
Client Associate Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most client associates?
The companies hiring the most client associates right now include Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, and JPMorganChase, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be highest at full-service broker-dealers and registered investment advisory firms.
How many client associate jobs are remote?
About 20% of client associate openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though the share varies by firm type and client segment. Roles focused on digital onboarding, back-office support, or high-net-worth correspondence tend to offer more location flexibility than branch-based positions.
How do you become a client associate?
Start by earning a bachelor's degree in finance, business, or economics, then build familiarity with CRM tools and financial account platforms. Pursue the Securities Industry Essentials exam before applying to broker-dealer roles. Apply to entry-level client associate or financial services associate positions, where you'll gain account management experience and typically complete required licensing within your first year.
Can you get hired as a client associate with little experience?
Yes, many firms hire client associates directly from college or from adjacent service roles such as banking, insurance, or customer success. Emphasize any experience managing sensitive information, resolving complex client requests, or working within regulated environments. Passing the Securities Industry Essentials exam before you apply is one of the most effective ways to stand out when your financial services experience is limited.
What does the client associate interview process look like?
Most client associate interviews follow a phone screen with HR, a panel or one-on-one interview with the hiring advisor or branch manager, and a final conversation that often includes a compliance or background review. Expect behavioral questions about client escalations, accuracy under pressure, and regulatory awareness. Some firms add a brief skills assessment covering financial terminology or CRM navigation.
Where can I find and apply to client associate jobs?
You can find and apply to client associate jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to each one that fits.
