Communications Director Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a communications director in Florida?
Most communications director roles in Florida require a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing, followed by years of progressively senior experience in corporate, government, or nonprofit communications. Florida has no state-issued license for this role, so advancement depends on a portfolio of campaigns, media placements, and team leadership. Earning accreditation through the Public Relations Society of America, whose Florida chapters are active in Miami, Tampa, and Orlando, strengthens candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire communications directors in Florida?
Employers hiring communications directors in Florida right now include Popeyes, Xanterra, and Broward Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's mix of large health systems, tourism and hospitality brands, financial services firms, and state government agencies generates steady demand for senior communications leadership throughout the year.
Which Florida cities have the most communications director jobs?
Miami, Tampa, and Naples consistently lead Florida in communications director openings. Miami's concentration of multinational corporations, financial institutions, and media companies drives the highest volume, while Tampa's growing technology sector and headquarters presence sustain strong demand, and Orlando's tourism, healthcare, and convention industries generate openings year-round across both private employers and public-sector organizations.
Are there remote communications director jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields. Communications director work is largely desk-based and well-suited to remote and hybrid arrangements, particularly for strategy, writing, and media relations functions. About 0% of communications director openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly Florida employers have adopted flexible arrangements for senior communications roles. Crisis response and executive advisory work most often require in-person availability.
How can I get hired as a communications director in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a communications coordinator or public relations specialist role at a large Florida institution, where you can build a campaign portfolio and media contact list before moving into management. Florida's major health systems such as AdventHealth and HCA Florida, along with state agencies and Florida's large university system, regularly hire entry-level communications staff who advance internally. Completing an accredited internship through a Florida college public relations program and earning PRSA student membership provides a concrete credential edge.
