Community Manager Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a community manager in Montana?
Community manager roles in Montana do not require a state-issued license or government registration. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, along with a portfolio of managed communities or social campaigns. Candidates who complete recognized certifications from organizations like the Community Roundtable or HubSpot Academy, and who can show measurable engagement results, are consistently prioritized by Montana employers over applicants with degrees alone.
Which companies hire community managers in Montana?
Employers hiring community managers in Montana right now include Aware, Benefis Health System, and AWARE, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's mix of healthcare systems, outdoor recreation brands, higher education institutions, and regional tech firms means openings appear across a wider range of industries than in most comparably sized states.
Which Montana cities have the most community manager jobs?
Billings, Butte, and Missoula account for the most community manager openings in Montana. Billings drives volume as the state's largest commercial and healthcare hub, Missoula concentrates openings in higher education and nonprofit sectors anchored by the University of Montana, and Bozeman's fast-growing tech and outdoor industry scene has made it the fastest-rising market for digital and brand community roles.
Are there remote community manager jobs in Montana?
Yes, and more than most fields. Community manager work is largely digital and communication-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 50% of community manager openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's screen-based nature. The tasks most commonly done remotely include forum moderation, social media scheduling, member communications, and community analytics reporting.
How can I get hired as a community manager in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to take on a volunteer or student community role with a Montana nonprofit, campus organization at the University of Montana or Montana State University, or a local outdoor recreation brand, then document measurable results. Adjacent roles like social media coordinator, customer support specialist, or marketing assistant at organizations such as Billings Clinic or regional credit unions frequently transition into community management. A portfolio showing active community growth or engagement improvement, paired with a recognized online community management certificate, gives candidates a clear edge over unverified applicants.
Where can I find and apply to community manager jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to community manager jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Montana employers and remote roles accepting Montana-based candidates. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
