Target engineering and R&D roles specifically
A123 Systems' sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical disciplines tied to battery and energy storage development. Roles in electrical engineering, materials science, and manufacturing engineering align most closely with their H-1B and Green Card sponsorship patterns.
Understand that H-1B sponsorship requires a specialty occupation
A123 Systems sponsors H-1B visas for roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. When applying, ensure your degree directly matches the job description, a mismatch in field of study is one of the most common reasons H-1B petitions face challenges.
Factor in Green Card sponsorship as a long-term signal
A123 Systems sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, indicating a willingness to invest in long-term retention of foreign nationals. If you're thinking beyond your first visa, this suggests the company supports employees through the permanent residency process.
Use Migrate Mate to find open roles with confirmed sponsorship history
Not every job posting makes sponsorship eligibility clear upfront. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving time you'd otherwise spend chasing companies that don't actually sponsor.
Prepare for a technical interview process aligned with hardware development
Electronics & Hardware employers like A123 Systems typically run multi-stage technical interviews covering domain-specific knowledge. Brush up on electrochemistry, battery management systems, or manufacturing processes depending on your target role before applying.
Mention sponsorship requirements early in the process
As an active sponsor with an established immigration process, A123 Systems is unlikely to be surprised by visa requirements. Raising sponsorship needs in your first recruiter call, rather than late in the offer stage, keeps expectations aligned and avoids wasted time on both sides.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does A123 Systems sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, A123 Systems sponsors H-1B visas. The company has a consistent track record of filing H-1B petitions for technical roles in the Electronics & Hardware space. Sponsored positions tend to be concentrated in engineering and research functions where specialized degree requirements support the specialty occupation classification USCIS requires.
What visa types does A123 Systems sponsor?
A123 Systems sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visa categories. On the work visa side, the company files H-1B petitions for qualifying specialty occupation roles. For permanent residency, A123 Systems sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, covering both advanced degree professionals and skilled workers. The company does not have a known track record of sponsoring E-3 visas.
Which departments or roles at A123 Systems typically receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at A123 Systems is most common in technical and engineering departments, given the company's focus on advanced battery and energy storage systems. Roles in electrical engineering, materials science, battery cell development, and manufacturing engineering are the strongest candidates. Corporate, sales, or general administrative roles are less likely to meet the specialty occupation threshold required for H-1B sponsorship.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at A123 Systems?
The most efficient way is to use Migrate Mate, which aggregates jobs from verified H-1B and Green Card sponsors so you can filter specifically for companies with A123 Systems' sponsorship profile. This removes the guesswork of identifying which open roles are realistically available to visa-dependent candidates, letting you focus your applications on positions where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
How do I approach the application timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at A123 Systems?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with USCIS accepting registrations in March for an October 1 start date. If you're targeting A123 Systems, aim to secure an offer by February at the latest so your employer has time to prepare the petition. If you're already in the U.S. on OPT or another status, a change of status may be possible without leaving the country, which simplifies the process considerably.
