Certify Credentials Before Applying
Airgas maintenance roles often require documented competency in areas like electrical systems, pneumatics, or refrigeration. Get any trade certifications or foreign credentials evaluated by a NACES-accredited agency before you submit applications so your qualifications aren't questioned during hiring.
Target Airgas Facilities Near Industrial Hubs
Airgas operates production plants, fill stations, and distribution centers across the country. Roles at larger industrial gas facilities tend to have more complex equipment needs, which increases the likelihood that a hiring manager will pursue sponsorship for a candidate with specialized skills.
Ask Directly About Sponsorship in Screening Calls
Airgas recruiters handle sponsorship decisions at the facility or regional level. In your first screening call, ask which visa types the site has sponsored before. This filters out locations that will stall later and focuses your effort on sites with an active sponsorship process.
Understand the H-1B Cap and Lottery Timing
If Airgas pursues H-1B sponsorship for you, USCIS registration opens in March for an October start date. Aligning your offer timeline with that window matters. Missing it by even a few weeks can delay your start by a full year.
Prepare for DOL Prevailing Wage Requirements
For EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship, Airgas must conduct a PERM labor certification through the DOL. Knowing the prevailing wage for your job zone and geographic area lets you negotiate an offer that meets DOL minimums and keeps the PERM filing on track.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Sponsoring Locations
Not all Airgas facilities sponsor visas with equal frequency. Search Migrate Mate to filter open Maintenance Technician roles at Airgas by location and sponsorship history, so you apply where your chances of getting a sponsored offer are strongest.

Find Maintenance Technician at Airgas JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Airgas sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenance Technicians?
Yes, Airgas has sponsored H-1B visas for Maintenance Technicians. Sponsorship decisions are typically made at the regional or facility level rather than centrally, so whether a specific opening includes sponsorship depends on the location and the hiring manager's willingness to initiate the petition. Roles requiring specialized skills in industrial gas systems or instrumentation are the most likely candidates for sponsorship.
How do I apply for Maintenance Technician jobs at Airgas?
You can search and apply directly through Airgas's careers portal on their website, or use Migrate Mate to browse Maintenance Technician openings at Airgas filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility. When applying, highlight hands-on experience with industrial equipment, safety compliance, and any certifications relevant to gas production or chemical processing environments. Tailoring your resume to the specific facility type improves your chances significantly.
Which visa types does Airgas commonly use for Maintenance Technicians?
Airgas has used both H-1B nonimmigrant visas and employment-based immigrant visa categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for Maintenance Technicians. H-1B is the most common path for initial work authorization, while EB-3 is the typical route for green card sponsorship in skilled trades roles. The specific pathway depends on the candidate's qualifications, the role's requirements, and the timeline the employer and applicant are working within.
What qualifications does Airgas expect for sponsored Maintenance Technician roles?
Airgas typically looks for candidates with hands-on experience maintaining industrial equipment such as compressors, pumps, valves, and electrical control systems. Relevant trade certifications in electrical work, HVAC, or instrumentation strengthen your application. Experience in a regulated industry such as chemicals, gas distribution, or manufacturing is a strong differentiator, since Airgas facilities operate under strict safety and compliance standards that require demonstrated technical competency.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when hired by Airgas?
For an H-1B, USCIS processes standard petitions in roughly three to six months, with premium processing available to reduce that window to around 15 business days. For a Green Card through PERM, the full process from labor certification through I-140 approval can take one to three years or longer depending on your country of birth. Aligning your start date and offer timeline with USCIS filing windows is important for avoiding gaps in work authorization.
