Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Maintenance Technician Jobs at Johnson Controls Jobs
Certify your credentials before applying
Johnson Controls maintenance roles often require EPA 608 refrigerant certification and electrical safety credentials. Having these documented before you apply removes a common bottleneck that delays offer letters and slows the sponsorship conversation.
Target facilities with active service contracts
Johnson Controls wins large facility management and service contracts across manufacturing plants and commercial buildings. Roles tied to active contracts have stronger hiring urgency, which translates to faster decisions on sponsorship-eligible candidates.
Align your resume to Johnson Controls job codes
Johnson Controls uses structured job families for maintenance technicians. Matching your resume language to their posted competencies, such as PLC troubleshooting, BAS systems, or chillers, signals fit to ATS screening before a recruiter ever reads it.
Understand TN eligibility for Canadian and Mexican applicants
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN status covers maintenance engineers in qualifying technical roles. Confirm with your prospective Johnson Controls hiring contact that the role description supports a TN classification before the DOL Labor Condition Application process begins.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open roles by location
Johnson Controls posts Maintenance Technician openings across dozens of states simultaneously. Search Migrate Mate to filter open positions by visa sponsorship availability and region so you can prioritize applications where hiring activity is strongest.

Find Maintenance Technician at Johnson Controls JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Johnson Controls sponsor H-1B visas for Maintenance Technicians?
Yes, Johnson Controls has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for technical roles including Maintenance Technicians. Sponsorship is most common for candidates with specialized skills in HVAC systems, building automation, or industrial controls. Because the H-1B requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, your application is strongest when the position clearly requires at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
How do I apply for Maintenance Technician jobs at Johnson Controls?
Apply directly through Johnson Controls' careers portal, where postings are organized by job family and location. Before applying, confirm the listing notes visa sponsorship eligibility, as not every maintenance role qualifies. Tailoring your resume to the specific system skills listed, such as chillers, fire systems, or BAS controls, significantly improves your chances of passing initial screening.
Which visa types does Johnson Controls commonly use for Maintenance Technician roles?
Johnson Controls sponsors several visa categories for Maintenance Technician positions, including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students in qualifying STEM programs, and J-1 for trainees or interns. For longer-term employment, they also support Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 labor certification, which involves PERM filing with the DOL.
What qualifications does Johnson Controls expect for sponsored Maintenance Technician roles?
Most sponsored positions require hands-on experience with HVAC systems, electrical systems, or building automation platforms. EPA 608 certification is frequently listed as a requirement. For H-1B sponsorship specifically, the role typically needs to be framed around a technical degree requirement, so candidates with formal engineering or electromechanical technology backgrounds are better positioned than those with field experience alone.
How do I find Maintenance Technician roles at Johnson Controls that offer visa sponsorship?
Not every Johnson Controls maintenance posting explicitly flags sponsorship eligibility, which makes it difficult to filter manually. Migrate Mate aggregates sponsorship-eligible roles from Johnson Controls and similar manufacturing employers, letting you search by visa type and job function in one place. This saves time you would otherwise spend cross-referencing job boards and company career pages individually.
