Target engineering and hardware roles first
Altera's sponsorship activity is concentrated in technical disciplines tied to its Electronics & Hardware core. Prioritize roles in chip design, embedded systems, and FPGA development, where sponsorship is most consistently supported and the case for specialty occupation is strongest.
Understand how your OPT or CPT fits Altera's hiring cycle
Altera sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, which means internship and early-career pathways are real options. Time your application to align with their recruiting cycles, and be upfront about your authorization period so hiring managers can plan around H-1B cap deadlines.
Canadian and Mexican nationals should highlight TN eligibility
Altera sponsors TN visas, which are faster and simpler than H-1B for qualifying professionals. If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and work in engineering or a related TN-eligible field, lead with your TN eligibility when reaching out to recruiters.
Research open roles before contacting recruiters
Altera recruiters respond better to candidates who've already identified a specific role and can articulate the fit. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and find Altera listings where sponsorship is confirmed before you apply.
Prepare a specialty occupation argument for your role
H-1B approval for Electronics & Hardware roles requires demonstrating the position requires a specialized degree. Research how your target role at Altera maps to a specific technical field, and have your degree transcripts and job description ready to support that connection.

Find Altera JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Altera sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Altera sponsors H-1B visas and has an active track record of doing so across its technical workforce. Sponsorship is most common in engineering-heavy roles within its Electronics & Hardware operations. If you're targeting an H-1B, focus on positions where a specialized degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field is a genuine requirement of the job.
Which visa types does Altera sponsor?
Altera sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas. This range makes it accessible to students, recent graduates, and experienced professionals alike. F-1 sponsorship is particularly useful for candidates earlier in their career, while TN is a strong path for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations.
Which departments or roles at Altera are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Altera tends to cluster in technical and engineering functions, consistent with its Electronics & Hardware focus. Roles in FPGA development, hardware design, embedded software, and related disciplines are the most common recipients. Business, sales, and non-technical roles are less likely to receive sponsorship, though exceptions exist depending on the seniority and specialization of the position.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Altera?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to find Altera roles where sponsorship is verified. You can filter specifically for companies with a confirmed H-1B or OPT sponsorship history, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying and hoping a company will sponsor. From there, apply directly and mention your visa situation early in the process to avoid surprises later.
How do I improve my chances of getting sponsored at Altera?
The strongest candidates at Altera combine a technical degree directly relevant to the role with demonstrable hands-on experience in hardware or embedded systems. If you're on OPT or CPT, treat your initial placement as an audition for long-term sponsorship. Be transparent about your visa timeline from the first conversation, and come prepared with a basic understanding of what your H-1B case would require, including how your degree maps to the specialty occupation standard.
