Obtain U.S.-recognized clinical credentials early
Many Healthcare roles at ARH require state licensure or national certification before an offer becomes viable. Start the Kentucky or West Virginia credentialing process well ahead of your job search, since licensing boards can take months to process foreign-trained applicants.
Target ARH's rural and underserved facility postings
ARH operates in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas, which can qualify certain Healthcare roles for J-1 Conrad 30 waivers or NHSC loan repayment. Positions at smaller community hospitals in their network are often harder to fill and more likely to attract sponsorship consideration.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Healthcare openings at ARH
ARH posts across multiple job boards, making it easy to miss relevant openings. Migrate Mate lets you filter directly for Healthcare roles at ARH with confirmed sponsorship history, so you're applying to positions where international candidates have a realistic path forward.
Clarify the H-1B versus EB-2/EB-3 timeline with HR
ARH sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visa categories for Healthcare roles. Ask HR upfront whether they'll support H-1B cap-subject filing or only cap-exempt petitions, since hospital systems affiliated with nonprofit research or teaching functions sometimes have cap-exempt filing authority under USCIS rules.
Prepare a credential evaluation for foreign-trained degrees
If your nursing, therapy, or allied health degree came from outside the U.S., ARH and relevant state boards will require a foreign credential evaluation. Use a NACES-member evaluator and request a course-by-course report, not just a general equivalency, to satisfy both the employer and USCIS for H-1B specialty occupation requirements.
Understand PERM timing if pursuing a Green Card
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, ARH must complete a DOL PERM labor certification before filing your immigrant petition. PERM processing currently runs well over a year at DOL, so raise the immigrant pathway conversation during the offer stage, not after you've started.

Find Healthcare at Appalachian Regional Healthcare JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Appalachian Regional Healthcare sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcares?
Yes, Appalachian Regional Healthcare does sponsor H-1B visas for qualifying Healthcare roles. ARH operates as a healthcare system in a region with consistent clinical staffing needs, which supports their willingness to file H-1B petitions. Whether a specific role qualifies depends on the position meeting USCIS specialty occupation standards, so confirm this with their HR or recruitment team early in the process.
How do I apply for Healthcare jobs at Appalachian Regional Healthcare?
Applications go through ARH's careers portal, where Healthcare positions are listed by facility and department across their Kentucky and West Virginia network. You can also browse ARH's sponsored Healthcare openings through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles with confirmed visa sponsorship history and lets you apply directly. Tailor your application to the specific facility's clinical needs and patient population.
Which visa types does Appalachian Regional Healthcare commonly use for Healthcare roles?
ARH sponsors both H-1B nonimmigrant visas and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories for Healthcare professionals. The H-1B is typically the first step for international hires in specialty occupations. EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship, which requires PERM labor certification through the DOL, is generally offered after initial employment is established.
What qualifications does Appalachian Regional Healthcare expect for Healthcare roles?
ARH expects candidates to hold relevant U.S. or foreign-equivalent degrees, active state licensure where required (Kentucky or West Virginia depending on location), and national certification for clinical roles such as nursing or therapy. Foreign-trained applicants should also have a NACES-recognized credential evaluation completed before applying, as ARH and USCIS both require documented degree equivalency for visa sponsorship eligibility.
How long does the sponsorship process take for Healthcare roles at ARH?
For H-1B sponsorship, plan for several months minimum, with the cap-subject lottery adding uncertainty if ARH doesn't have cap-exempt filing authority. If they sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card cases, the DOL PERM stage alone currently takes over a year before USCIS even begins reviewing the immigrant petition. Raising the visa pathway discussion during the offer stage gives you the clearest timeline.
