Target academic and research roles first
Creighton's sponsorship activity is concentrated in faculty, research, and specialized professional positions. Focus your search on departments in health sciences, business, and the arts and sciences, where international hiring has historically been strongest.
Understand the H-1B timeline for university hiring
Universities like Creighton often hire for fall semesters, meaning faculty searches begin six to twelve months in advance. Align your application timeline accordingly and be aware of the H-1B cap and April lottery if you're not already in H-1B status.
Explore OPT and CPT as entry points
Creighton sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, making it accessible for current international students. Securing a role through OPT puts you inside the institution and can strengthen your case for H-1B sponsorship down the line.
Engage Creighton's international faculty and staff office early
Universities manage visa sponsorship through dedicated international offices. Reach out to Creighton's office proactively to understand their internal process, required documentation, and how they coordinate with immigration counsel before you receive an offer.
Highlight specialized expertise that justifies sponsorship
Creighton sponsors roles requiring niche academic or professional qualifications. Emphasize credentials, publications, certifications, or specialized skills that make you difficult to replace locally, this is what motivates a university to invest in sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified open roles at Creighton
Searching broadly wastes time on employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, making it easier to find current openings at Creighton University and similar institutions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Creighton University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Creighton University sponsors H-1B visas and has an established track record of doing so. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff. Because Creighton is a nonprofit educational institution, it qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, meaning H-1B petitions can be filed year-round without waiting for the annual lottery.
What visa types does Creighton University sponsor?
Creighton University sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles, EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for eligible employees, and F-1 OPT and CPT for international students. TN visas are also supported for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals. The mix of visa types reflects Creighton's commitment to hiring internationally across academic and professional functions.
Which departments or roles at Creighton University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at Creighton is most concentrated in roles requiring specialized academic credentials or hard-to-source expertise. Health sciences, nursing, pharmacy, business, and research-intensive departments tend to drive the most international hiring. Staff roles in IT, data, and institutional research also attract sponsorship when the position requires a specific degree field that qualifies as a specialty occupation.
How do I apply for a visa-sponsored role at Creighton University?
Start by identifying open positions on Creighton's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which lets you filter for verified visa sponsors. Apply with a CV tailored to U.S. academic hiring standards and clearly indicate your visa status and authorization needs. If you receive an offer, Creighton's international office and outside immigration counsel typically manage the petition process, so expect to provide detailed documentation of your qualifications and employment history.
Does Creighton University sponsor Green Cards for international employees?
Yes, Creighton University sponsors Green Cards, primarily through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based categories. This is more common for long-term faculty and staff where the institution has a sustained hiring need. Green Card sponsorship typically follows a period of H-1B employment and involves PERM labor certification, which can take two or more years depending on your priority date and country of birth.
