Align your degree to Figma's role
E-3 requires your degree to match your job's specialty occupation. At Figma, product and engineering roles typically require a degree in computer science, HCI, or a related field, not just any bachelor's degree. Confirm the match before applying.
Target design-adjacent engineering teams
Figma's core product sits at the intersection of design and engineering. Roles on the infrastructure, developer experience, or plugin platform teams often qualify as specialty occupations and have historically drawn international candidates with technical depth.
Request an LCA before your offer letter finalizes
Figma's recruiting team files a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa can proceed. Ask your recruiter early whether the LCA has been initiated so you know your consulate appointment timeline won't slip while paperwork catches up.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
Your E-3 salary must meet DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Run your job title and Figma's San Francisco or New York office address through OFLC Wage Search before negotiating so you can confirm your offer clears the threshold.
Verify your occupation maps correctly in O*NET
Figma sometimes titles roles in non-standard ways like 'Product Designer' or 'Growth Engineer.' Cross-check your actual duties against the O*NET occupation profile to confirm the specialty occupation classification your employer will use on the LCA.
File your E-3 paperwork through Migrate Mate
Once Figma issues your offer and the LCA is certified, you need to book a consulate appointment and prepare your visa packet. Migrate Mate handles E-3 filings at a flat fee, so you aren't navigating USCIS documentation requirements on your own.
Figma E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Figma sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Figma sponsors E-3 visas for eligible Australian nationals. The company hires for specialty occupation roles across design, engineering, and product, and has the immigration infrastructure to support E-3 filings. Your role must require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field to qualify under E-3 specialty occupation rules.
Which roles at Figma typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
Roles in software engineering, UX and product design, product management, and data science are the most common E-3 candidates at Figma. These positions require a specific bachelor's degree in a related discipline, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. General business or operations roles may face more scrutiny depending on the degree requirement stated in the job description.
How do I start the E-3 application process at Figma?
After Figma extends a formal offer, their immigration team or outside counsel files a Labor Condition Application with DOL. Once the LCA is certified, you take that document along with your offer letter and a DS-160 application to your nearest U.S. consulate in Australia. You can work with Migrate Mate to prepare your full visa packet before the appointment.
How long does the E-3 process take at Figma?
The LCA typically certifies within seven business days. Consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth then determines the overall timeline, which can range from two to eight weeks depending on current wait times. Starting the process immediately after receiving your offer and requesting an early LCA from Figma's team keeps delays to a minimum.
What can I do to strengthen my E-3 application for Figma?
Confirm that your Australian degree title and field directly match your job duties at Figma before your offer is finalized. Gather your original degree certificate and transcripts, and check the O*NET occupation profile for your role to understand how DOL classifies it. A clean degree-to-role match is the most common factor that accelerates E-3 approval at the consulate.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Figma?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
