Frame your degree as specialty occupation evidence
McKinsey's E-3 roles require demonstrating that your specific degree field directly supports the position. Map your Australian bachelor's or postgraduate degree to the consulting function you're targeting, since a mismatch between degree field and role scope is the most common LCA complication at professional services firms.
Target teams with recurring international hiring
McKinsey's strategy, operations, and digital transformation practices have historically brought in internationally credentialed talent. Research which practice areas have posted roles with E-3 or H-1B visa eligibility noted, then tailor your application to those teams rather than applying broadly across the firm.
Confirm prevailing wage alignment before your offer stage
Before McKinsey files your Labor Condition Application with DOL, verify that your offered compensation meets the prevailing wage for your role and work location using the OFLC Wage Search. Misalignment at this stage can delay certification and push back your start date by several weeks.
Use Migrate Mate to check McKinsey's LCA filing history
Pull McKinsey's DOL Labor Condition Application records on Migrate Mate to see which job titles, office locations, and wage levels they've filed for under E-3. This tells you exactly where the firm has approved sponsorship precedent before you invest time in a specific application track.
Prepare your DS-160 before your LCA is certified
McKinsey's HR and immigration counsel typically move quickly once the LCA clears DOL. Having your DS-160 completed and your consular appointment researched in advance means you can book your interview slot the same week the LCA certifies, reducing your total processing window significantly.
Address Australian degree equivalency proactively in your resume
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 specialty occupation purposes, but McKinsey's immigration team will need to document this. A clear credential summary on your resume reduces back-and-forth between HR and outside counsel during the LCA drafting phase.
McKinsey & Company E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mckinsey Company Inc United States sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, McKinsey & Company sponsors E-3 visas for Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. The firm has an established immigration program and works with outside counsel to manage Labor Condition Application filings and consular documentation. Roles in consulting, strategy, operations, and analytics are the most common tracks where E-3 sponsorship is available.
Which roles and departments typically receive E-3 sponsorship at McKinsey?
E-3 sponsorship at McKinsey is concentrated in client-facing consulting and analytical roles, including associate, business analyst, and specialist positions within strategy, operations, digital, and sector-specific practice areas. Roles that require a directly related bachelor's or postgraduate degree are best positioned for specialty occupation qualification under E-3 requirements.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at McKinsey?
Once McKinsey extends an offer, their HR team coordinates with immigration counsel to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and attend a consular interview in Australia. McKinsey's immigration team typically manages employer-side steps, but you're responsible for scheduling your consulate appointment promptly.
How do I estimate the timeline for an E-3 at McKinsey?
DOL certifies most LCAs within seven business days. Consular appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth varies seasonally but is often bookable within two to four weeks. End-to-end from signed offer to visa stamp typically runs four to six weeks for straightforward cases, though administrative processing at the consulate can extend this.
How do I strengthen my E-3 application for a McKinsey role?
Use Migrate Mate to review McKinsey's historical LCA filings by job title and location before your interview, so you understand which roles have an established sponsorship track. Ensure your degree field aligns directly with the consulting function you're applying for, and prepare a clear credential summary addressing Australian degree equivalency to streamline the LCA drafting process with McKinsey's immigration counsel.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Mckinsey Company Inc United States?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
