Document your equipment certifications before applying
Equipment Depot prioritizes hands-on technical credentials for service roles. Gather certifications for forklift, aerial work platform, or material handling equipment before you apply. USCIS and DOL both scrutinize whether your qualifications directly match the specialty occupation or labor certification requirements.
Target branches with open service bay roles
Equipment Depot operates branches across multiple regions, and hiring for Technician roles is driven by local service demand. Focus your applications on locations with multiple active openings, since high-volume hiring branches are more likely to have HR infrastructure familiar with sponsorship paperwork.
Understand that EB-3 is the realistic permanent path
Technician roles at Equipment Depot align more naturally with EB-3 skilled worker classification than EB-2. Expect your employer to file a PERM labor certification with the DOL before sponsoring your Green Card, a process that typically runs 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition stage.
Clarify sponsorship intent during the offer stage
Raise the Green Card question once you have a conditional offer, not during early interviews. Ask specifically whether the branch or regional HR team has handled PERM filings before, since Equipment Depot's sponsorship experience can vary by location.
Use Migrate Mate to identify sponsorship-active locations
Not every Equipment Depot branch has filed for sponsorship on Technician roles. Use Migrate Mate to filter open positions by sponsorship history so you're applying to locations where the process is already understood, rather than starting that conversation from scratch.
Prepare for a skills-based technical interview
Equipment Depot's Technician hiring process typically includes a practical assessment of your diagnostic and repair knowledge. Brush up on electrical systems, hydraulic troubleshooting, and manufacturer-specific service procedures relevant to the brands they support before your interview.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Equipment Depot sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Equipment Depot's sponsorship activity for Technician roles has been focused on permanent residency pathways rather than the H-1B visa. Technician positions are generally classified as skilled trade or specialty occupation roles, and the company has used EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card routes for eligible candidates rather than the H-1B cap-subject process.
Which visa types does Equipment Depot typically use for Technician sponsorship?
Equipment Depot has sponsored Technician roles under the EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories. EB-3 is the more common path for skilled technician positions, requiring the employer to complete a PERM labor certification through the DOL before filing an I-140 petition with USCIS. These are permanent residency pathways, not temporary work visas.
What qualifications does Equipment Depot expect from Technician candidates seeking sponsorship?
Equipment Depot typically looks for candidates with hands-on experience servicing material handling or industrial equipment, including forklifts, scissor lifts, or reach trucks. Relevant certifications from manufacturers or trade bodies strengthen your profile. For PERM purposes, the job requirements must match your documented credentials, so ensure your resume reflects the specific technical skills listed in the job posting.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Technician role at Equipment Depot?
The EB-3 pathway involves several stages: PERM labor certification with the DOL takes roughly 12 to 18 months, followed by the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Depending on your country of birth and the visa bulletin priority date backlog, the total timeline to a Green Card can extend several years. Starting the process early in your employment is important.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at Equipment Depot?
You can search for open Technician roles at Equipment Depot directly through their careers page, or use Migrate Mate to browse Equipment Depot positions filtered specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility. Migrate Mate helps you identify which locations and roles have a sponsorship track record, so you can focus your applications where the path to sponsorship is most established.
