Target faculty and research roles first
Fordham's sponsorship activity is concentrated in academic and research positions. Faculty openings in its business, law, and social sciences programs are among the most likely to come with H-1B or Green Card sponsorship for qualified international candidates.
Understand the academic hiring calendar
University hiring runs on a distinct cycle. Faculty searches typically open in the fall for positions starting the following academic year. Applying early in the cycle improves your odds of being considered before sponsorship decisions are made internally.
Ask about sponsorship before accepting a campus interview
Fordham's HR and department coordinators are experienced with visa processes for international hires. Confirming sponsorship availability early in the process saves time for both sides and signals you understand how university hiring works.
Leverage OPT or CPT as a bridge if you're on an F-1
Fordham sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT, which can give you time to establish yourself before an H-1B petition is filed. If you're a recent graduate, this pathway is worth discussing with the hiring department during interviews.
Look beyond faculty to professional and administrative roles
Fordham's professional staff in areas like finance, technology, and student affairs have also received sponsorship. Don't limit your search to academic positions. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Fordham openings by visa type and surface roles across all departments.
Prepare for a longer hiring timeline than the private sector
University hiring, especially for sponsored roles, often moves more slowly than corporate recruitment. Budget for a multi-month process from application to offer, and factor in USCIS processing windows when planning your status transitions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fordham University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Fordham University sponsors H-1B visas, primarily for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff. The university has a consistent track record of filing H-1B petitions across its campuses in New York City. Roles in academic departments and certain administrative functions are the most common pathways for H-1B sponsorship at Fordham.
What visa types does Fordham University sponsor?
Fordham sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation roles, as well as employment-based Green Cards (EB-2 and EB-3) for longer-term hires. The university also supports F-1 students through OPT and CPT programs. TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals are also part of Fordham's sponsorship portfolio.
Which departments or roles at Fordham University are most likely to offer visa sponsorship?
Academic departments across Fordham's Gabelli School of Business, Fordham Law, and its liberal arts colleges have historically been active in sponsoring international hires. Research-oriented positions and tenure-track faculty roles carry the strongest sponsorship potential. Certain technology and finance roles within professional staff functions have also led to sponsorships.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Fordham University?
Migrate Mate is the most efficient way to browse Fordham University's open positions filtered by real sponsorship history. Rather than manually checking job postings and guessing whether sponsorship is available, Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsoring employers so you can search with confidence and focus your time on roles that match your visa situation.
How do I approach the application process at Fordham University as an international candidate?
Apply through Fordham's official careers portal and tailor your application to the specific department's priorities. For faculty roles, a strong research statement and teaching portfolio carry significant weight. Raise the visa sponsorship question with HR once you've reached the interview stage. Fordham's HR team is familiar with immigration processes, so a direct and informed conversation early on is appropriate and expected.
