Align your credentials to GFT's technical environment
GFT operates at the intersection of technology and physical infrastructure. Frame your civil engineering background around data center site work, structural assessments for tech facilities, or construction project management to match what their hiring teams are actually evaluating.
Confirm H-1B eligibility before applying
Civil engineering roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines, but your degree must be directly related to the position. A general engineering degree may require credential evaluation if it was earned outside the U.S., so have that documentation ready before outreach.
Target GFT roles open outside peak H-1B season
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're not already in H-1B status, applying in Q3 or Q4 gives GFT time to plan a petition filing in the next cycle without timeline pressure.
Use Migrate Mate to surface current Civil Engineer openings
GFT posts civil engineering roles across multiple locations and project types. Search Migrate Mate to filter for positions that explicitly support visa sponsorship, so you're targeting roles where the hiring process is already set up to accommodate H-1B filing.
Understand how GFT's LCA filing affects your job location
The Department of Labor requires employers to file a Labor Condition Application tied to a specific worksite. If GFT lists a role in a different city than where you plan to work, clarify the worksite arrangement before accepting an offer to avoid LCA compliance issues.
Prepare for a multi-stage offer and petition timeline
After an offer is extended, GFT's HR or legal team initiates the H-1B petition process with USCIS. From offer acceptance to petition filing typically runs several weeks, so avoid giving notice to a current employer until you have written confirmation the petition has been submitted.

Find Civil Engineer at GFT JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does GFT sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Engineers?
Yes, GFT sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Engineer roles. Civil engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS rules, meaning the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. GFT has an established history of filing H-1B petitions for this function, making it a legitimate option for candidates who need employer-sponsored work authorization.
How do I apply for Civil Engineer jobs at GFT?
Applications go through GFT's careers portal, where Civil Engineer roles are listed by location and project type. Before applying, review the job description carefully to confirm the worksite, required licensure, and whether the posting explicitly mentions visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate also indexes GFT's sponsorship-eligible roles, which can help you identify the right openings faster and track new postings.
Which visa types are commonly used for Civil Engineer roles at GFT?
The H-1B is the primary visa GFT uses to sponsor Civil Engineers. If you're already in a valid status such as F-1 with OPT or STEM OPT, you may be able to start work while the H-1B petition is pending through a timely filing. For candidates already holding an H-1B with another employer, a transfer petition allows you to join GFT without re-entering the lottery.
What qualifications does GFT expect for Civil Engineer roles?
GFT's civil engineering positions in a technology and software context typically require a degree in civil, structural, or a closely related engineering discipline, along with project experience relevant to construction, infrastructure, or facilities work. Professional Engineer licensure is an advantage for senior roles. Because USCIS requires your degree to align with the specific job duties, a credential evaluation is advisable if your degree was awarded outside the U.S.
How do I plan my timeline around GFT's H-1B sponsorship process?
H-1B petitions for cap-subject candidates must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. That means securing an offer from GFT by late February or early March gives enough lead time for the Labor Condition Application to be certified by DOL before the USCIS filing window opens. If you miss a cap cycle, GFT may be able to extend OPT or explore cap-exempt options depending on your situation.
