Align your portfolio to Google's AI products
Google evaluates AI Product Engineers on hands-on experience with production ML systems, not just research. Document projects where you shipped models at scale, improved latency, or owned a product metric. Generic ML portfolios won't stand out in Google's structured hiring loops.
Target teams that sponsor E-3 or H-1B1
Google files under H-1B, H-1B1 for Singaporean and Chilean nationals, and E-3 for Australians. If you hold one of those nationalities, the cap-exempt H-1B1 and E-3 pathways bypass the lottery entirely, giving you a direct route to an offer without waiting for April registration.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS scrutinizes AI Product Engineer petitions because the role spans product management and engineering. Your resume, offer letter, and employer's petition need to clearly establish that a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field is required for the specific duties.
Time your application around Google's H-1B registration window
Google registers H-1B candidates each March for the April lottery. If you're interviewing in Q4, ask your recruiter explicitly whether an offer can be extended in time to register. Missing the window means a 12-month delay unless you qualify for a cap-exempt pathway.
Find open AI Product Engineer roles using Migrate Mate
Google posts AI Product Engineer openings across multiple product areas simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter actively sponsored roles at Google so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed, not following up with recruiters to verify eligibility after the fact.
Negotiate start date to accommodate I-129 processing
Once Google extends an offer, your actual start date depends on USCIS adjudicating the I-129 petition. Standard processing runs three to five months. If you need to start sooner, ask Google's immigration team whether premium processing is available for your petition type before accepting.

Find AI Product Engineer at Google JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor H-1B visas for AI Product Engineers?
Yes, Google sponsors H-1B visas for AI Product Engineers. The role falls within the specialty occupation category USCIS requires for H-1B eligibility, given its technical degree requirements. Google also files under E-3 for Australian nationals and H-1B1 for Singaporean and Chilean nationals, which bypass the H-1B lottery entirely.
How do I apply for AI Product Engineer jobs at Google?
Apply directly through Google's careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to browse AI Product Engineer openings at Google that are flagged for visa sponsorship. Google's hiring process for this role typically involves a recruiter screen, technical phone interviews covering ML systems and product thinking, and a full onsite or virtual loop before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Google use for AI Product Engineer roles?
Google most commonly uses the H-1B for AI Product Engineers requiring cap-subject sponsorship. For eligible nationals, the E-3 (Australian citizens) and H-1B1 (Singaporean and Chilean nationals) are cap-exempt alternatives that avoid the lottery. All three require the employer to file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before the visa petition is submitted to USCIS.
What qualifications does Google expect for AI Product Engineer roles?
Google's AI Product Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field, along with hands-on experience building and deploying ML models in production environments. Familiarity with Google's internal tooling (TensorFlow, Vertex AI) and experience owning product metrics in cross-functional teams strengthens your profile significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at Google?
Timeline depends on which visa pathway applies. H-1B cap-subject petitions follow a fixed April registration window, with employment typically starting October 1 at the earliest. E-3 and H-1B1 petitions can be filed year-round, with USCIS standard processing running three to five months. Google's immigration team coordinates the I-129 filing after offer acceptance, but factor this timeline into your start date negotiation.
