Certify Your Trade Credentials Before Applying
Groundworks evaluates Service Techs on hands-on competency, not just employment history. Certifications in waterproofing, foundation systems, or general construction trades strengthen your application before a hiring manager ever raises the visa question.
Target Groundworks Markets With Active Openings
Groundworks operates across dozens of regional markets, and sponsorship activity tends to follow where field hiring is heaviest. Applying to locations with multiple open Service Tech roles signals active workforce need, which is what drives a company to pursue H-2B filings.
Understand the H-2B Seasonal Filing Window
H-2B visas are tied to semi-annual cap periods, and DOL certification must be filed well before the start date you're targeting. Missing the relevant filing window by even a few weeks can push your start by an entire season.
Confirm Sponsorship Willingness During Initial Screening
Ask directly during the first recruiter call whether the specific location you're interviewing with is set up to file H-2B petitions. Regional franchises sometimes handle hiring independently, so confirming early prevents wasted rounds of interviews.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsoring Locations
Not every Groundworks location files for the same visa types in a given year. Use Migrate Mate to identify which markets have an active sponsorship history for Service Tech roles before you spend time applying to locations that may not file.
Get Written Clarity on Your Employment Period
H-2B status is tied to the specific employment period certified by DOL. Before accepting an offer, confirm in writing whether the role is structured as a temporary seasonal position or whether the company anticipates filing for an extension or change of status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Groundworks sponsor H-1B visas for Service Techs?
Groundworks does not typically sponsor H-1B visas for Service Tech roles. Service Tech positions at Groundworks are classified as skilled trade work rather than specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree, which is the threshold the H-1B requires. Groundworks primarily uses the H-2B visa category for temporary nonimmigrant workers in this function.
Which visa types does Groundworks commonly use for Service Tech roles?
The H-2B visa is the primary category Groundworks uses for Service Techs. H-2B covers temporary non-agricultural workers in roles where a U.S. employer can demonstrate seasonal or intermittent need. Because field service work in foundation repair and waterproofing often tracks construction seasonality, the H-2B fits the nature of this work more closely than other visa categories.
What qualifications and experience does Groundworks expect for Service Tech roles?
Groundworks looks for hands-on experience in residential or commercial construction, foundation systems, waterproofing, or crawl space remediation. A formal degree is not required, but trade certifications, a valid driver's license, and demonstrated ability to work in confined or physically demanding environments carry significant weight. Prior experience with similar field service companies strengthens your profile considerably.
How do I apply for Service Tech jobs at Groundworks?
You can browse and apply for open Service Tech positions at Groundworks through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles with documented visa sponsorship history. When applying, note the regional market you're targeting, confirm sponsorship availability with the recruiter during your first contact, and be prepared to discuss your work authorization status and availability timeline upfront.
How does the H-2B filing timeline affect my start date at Groundworks?
H-2B petitions are subject to semi-annual cap periods administered by USCIS, and the DOL labor certification step must be completed before USCIS filing begins. From initial DOL filing to visa issuance can take several months. If Groundworks targets a spring start date, the filing process typically begins in the preceding fall, so aligning your offer timing with their recruitment cycle is critical.
