Target departments with high international hiring
NSU's colleges of medicine, pharmacy, psychology, and engineering sciences regularly recruit specialized faculty and researchers who require H-1B sponsorship. Focusing your applications on these departments improves your odds of landing a role with built-in sponsorship support.
Understand NSU's internal H-1B process
NSU processes H-1B petitions through its Office of Human Resources in coordination with outside immigration counsel. Asking HR early about the sponsorship workflow, including LCA filing and petition timelines, helps you plan your start date realistically.
Apply well ahead of the H-1B cap deadline
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're starting fresh, begin your NSU job search several months before registration opens in March so HR has time to prepare your petition.
Emphasize how your degree directly matches the role
H-1B eligibility requires a degree in a field directly related to the position. In your NSU application materials, explicitly connect your academic background to the specific job duties so the sponsorship case is straightforward for their immigration team to build.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified NSU openings
Not every NSU job listing will mention H-1B sponsorship upfront. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and identify current NSU openings where international candidates have a genuine path forward.
Leverage NSU's academic hiring cycles
University faculty and staff roles follow predictable hiring windows, with many positions posted in fall and spring. Timing your applications to align with NSU's academic recruitment calendar increases your chances of finding a role before the H-1B registration window opens.
Nova Southeastern University H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Nova Southeastern University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Nova Southeastern University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying positions across its colleges and administrative units. NSU is an established H-1B sponsor with experience processing petitions through its HR office and outside immigration counsel, particularly for faculty, researchers, and specialized professional staff roles that meet the specialty occupation standard.
Which roles and departments at Nova Southeastern University typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at NSU is most common in academic and clinical departments, including health sciences, pharmacy, medicine, psychology, engineering, and computer science. Research faculty, instructors in specialized disciplines, and certain professional staff positions in areas like IT and institutional research are the roles most likely to support H-1B sponsorship.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process at Nova Southeastern University?
Once NSU extends a job offer, their HR team initiates the H-1B process by filing a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor, followed by an I-129 petition with USCIS. You'll need to provide educational credentials, employment history, and documentation confirming your degree aligns with the role. NSU typically works with immigration attorneys who guide both the employer and employee through each step.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Nova Southeastern University?
Standard H-1B processing through USCIS takes roughly three to five months from petition filing. If your start date is tied to the October 1 cap date, the timeline is fixed by the annual H-1B cycle. NSU's HR team can advise whether premium processing is available for your role, which reduces the USCIS adjudication window to a matter of days.
What practical steps can I take to improve my chances of H-1B sponsorship at Nova Southeastern University?
Start by identifying NSU roles where your degree directly maps to the job description, which strengthens the specialty occupation argument central to every H-1B petition. Raise the sponsorship question early in the interview process so HR can assess feasibility before an offer is extended. Migrate Mate can help you identify current NSU openings where sponsorship has historically been supported, saving you time on roles that are unlikely to move forward.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Nova Southeastern University?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
