Target faculty and research postings first
Rowan University's H-1B sponsorship activity is strongest in academic and research roles. Prioritize openings in STEM departments, research centers, and professional staff positions where degree-specific requirements align naturally with H-1B specialty occupation standards.
Understand the academic hiring cycle
University hiring follows predictable rhythms, with most faculty searches opening in fall and staff roles posted year-round. Timing your application ahead of the April H-1B cap deadline matters, so monitor Rowan's careers page consistently throughout the year.
Confirm sponsorship willingness early in the process
Higher education employers vary on whether individual departments or central HR own sponsorship decisions. Ask during initial outreach whether the specific department has sponsored H-1B petitions before, not just whether the university has a general policy.
Use verified sponsorship data when job searching
Not every Rowan posting will explicitly mention H-1B. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus applications on roles where international candidates have actually been hired before.
Prepare a strong specialty occupation case
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions for education-sector roles. Be ready to document how your specific position requires a directly related bachelor's degree or higher, particularly for administrative or non-tenure-track roles that may face more questions.
Factor in university legal office timelines
Many universities process H-1B petitions through in-house counsel or a preferred immigration law firm rather than external attorneys. Expect longer preparation timelines than private-sector employers, and engage HR about internal deadlines well before the USCIS filing window opens.
Rowan University H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Rowan University sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Rowan University sponsors H-1B visas. As a public research university, Rowan regularly files H-1B petitions for qualified international candidates, particularly in faculty, research, and specialized professional staff roles. Sponsorship is handled through the university's HR and legal team, and eligibility depends on the specific position meeting H-1B specialty occupation requirements.
Which roles and departments at Rowan University typically receive H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Rowan University is most common in STEM-related academic departments, research institutes, and technical professional staff positions. Tenure-track and visiting faculty roles in engineering, sciences, business, and health sciences are frequently sponsored. Administrative roles can qualify but face closer USCIS scrutiny on the specialty occupation requirement, so the job duties and degree alignment matter significantly.
How does the H-1B application process work at Rowan University?
Once Rowan extends a conditional offer, the sponsoring department works with the university's HR office and immigration counsel to prepare the H-1B petition. This includes filing a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before submitting Form I-129 to USCIS. The university typically manages the employer-side paperwork, but you'll need to provide immigration history, degree credentials, and employment documentation promptly when requested.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at Rowan University?
Expect the full process to take several months from offer acceptance to approved status. The Labor Condition Application alone takes around one to two weeks with standard processing. USCIS standard adjudication for Form I-129 currently runs three to six months, though premium processing can reduce USCIS review to around 15 business days for an additional fee. University internal preparation timelines add further lead time, so starting early is essential.
How do I find H-1B jobs at Rowan University as an international candidate?
Search Rowan University's official careers portal and look for roles in departments with a history of international hires. Migrate Mate is a useful starting point because it filters job listings by verified H-1B sponsorship history, helping you identify Rowan postings where sponsorship is genuinely on the table rather than speculative. Reaching out to department contacts or faculty in your field after applying can also improve visibility with hiring committees.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at Rowan University?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
