Frame Your Credentials for Specialty Occupation Standards
Operations roles at universities can face USCIS scrutiny over specialty occupation eligibility. Make sure your degree field directly maps to the specific role, whether that's operations research, supply chain management, or facilities engineering, not a general business degree.
Target Roles Tied to Research Infrastructure
Johns Hopkins runs one of the largest research enterprises in the country. Operations positions supporting research facilities, laboratory logistics, or sponsored program administration tend to have stronger sponsorship precedent than purely administrative support roles.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Operations Roles
Search Migrate Mate to browse Johns Hopkins Operations openings filtered by visa sponsorship availability, so you're only applying to positions where international candidates have a realistic path forward.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During Initial Interviews
University HR teams often distinguish between sponsoring an H-1B extension for a current employee and initiating a new petition for an outside hire. Ask hiring managers directly whether the role budget includes new H-1B sponsorship, not just transfers.

Find Operations at Johns Hopkins University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Johns Hopkins University sponsor H-1B visas for Operations roles?
Yes, Johns Hopkins University sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying Operations positions. The university has an established international hiring process, particularly for roles tied to research operations, facilities, and program administration. Sponsorship is not automatic for every posting, so confirm with the hiring team whether a specific role is open to H-1B candidates before applying.
How do I apply for Operations jobs at Johns Hopkins University?
Applications go through the Johns Hopkins careers portal, where each posting specifies the hiring department and required qualifications. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse Operations openings at Johns Hopkins filtered by visa sponsorship, which saves time by surfacing roles where international candidates are actively considered. Tailor your resume to reflect the specific operational function, whether research administration, supply chain, or facilities management.
Which visa types are commonly used for Operations roles at Johns Hopkins University?
Johns Hopkins supports several visa pathways for Operations hires. H-1B is the most common route for full-time positions requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specialty field. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students and recent graduates in relevant programs. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 is pursued for longer-term hires after PERM labor certification through DOL.
What qualifications are expected for Operations positions at Johns Hopkins University?
Expectations depend on the specific function. Research operations roles typically require experience with grant compliance, sponsored program regulations, or laboratory logistics. Facilities and project management positions often look for PMP certification or relevant engineering backgrounds. Supply chain roles may require procurement or ERP system experience. For H-1B sponsorship, your degree field needs to directly align with the role's core duties to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements.
How do I navigate the sponsorship timeline when targeting Johns Hopkins Operations roles?
If you're transitioning from F-1 OPT, the H-1B cap filing window opens April 1 for an October 1 start date, meaning Johns Hopkins needs to initiate your petition by late March at the latest. For H-1B transfers from another employer, timing is more flexible since cap-exempt portability applies. For Green Card pathways, PERM labor certification with DOL can take 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition is even filed, so discuss long-term intent early in the offer process.
