Job Description
Drive the transformation of Consumer & Community Banking as a Principal Domain Architect. Lead the development of forward-looking architecture strategies that foster innovation and modernization. Champion the adoption of advanced technologies, including AI, while upholding the highest standards of security and compliance. Collaborate with senior leaders to shape strategic direction and investment priorities, leveraging your expertise to deliver impactful solutions that advance the business and enhance customer experience. As a Principal Domain Architect at JPMorgan Chase within Consumer & Community Banking, you are accountable for defining the target architecture for initiatives that cut across multiple products, platforms, and channels. You will use Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to create clear bounded contexts, domain ownership, and integration contracts, enabling delivery teams to build scalable, secure, and compliant capabilities. You will also shape the modernization agenda—cloud and platform evolution, API/event-driven integration, and AI-enabled capabilities—while partnering with senior leaders across Product and Technology to align architecture with business outcomes.
Job Responsibilities
Target architecture leadership
- Define end-to-end target architectures for Consumer & Community Banking cross-product initiatives, including operating model implications, dependency mapping, and migration strategy.
- Establish reference architectures, patterns, and guardrails for consistent delivery across teams.
Domain-driven design & boundary definition
- Lead domain discovery and modeling workshops with Product, Engineering, Ops, Risk/Controls, and Data stakeholders. Produce clear bounded contexts, context maps, canonical domain language, and ownership decisions (systems of record, decision rights, data stewardship).
- Define integration patterns and contracts (APIs, events, schemas), and drive adoption across product lines.
Modernization & innovation (including AI)
- Identify modernization opportunities such as decomposition, platform consolidation, cloud/hybrid adoption, resiliency, observability, and data lineage.
- Incorporate emerging AI capabilities responsibly—domain-aware copilots/assistants, intelligent document processing, and decisioning support—while addressing governance, model risk, privacy, and security requirements.
- Partner with engineering teams to pilot innovations, define success metrics, and scale what works.
Executive-level partnership & business alignment
- Translate business strategy into architectural decisions, sequencing, and investment trade-offs.
- Collaborate with senior heads of Product and Technology to shape roadmaps, prioritize capabilities, manage cross-product dependencies, and communicate architecture clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
Risk, resilience, and controls
Ensure architectures meet expectations for regulatory compliance, security, resiliency, data protection, auditability, and embed “secure-by-design” and “controls-by-design” practices in target-state patterns and delivery plans.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Proven experience as a domain/enterprise architect leading complex initiatives across multiple products or business lines.
- Strong hands-on mastery of Domain-Driven Design (bounded contexts, ubiquitous language, context mapping, aggregates, domain events) and the ability to apply it pragmatically at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to define and socialize target architectures and drive adoption across diverse engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of financial services/banking domains (e.g., deposits, lending, payments, fraud, servicing, onboarding, channels) and associated regulatory/control expectations.
- Strong executive communication, influencing, and facilitation skills, including working directly with senior Product and Technology leadership.
- Strong business acumen: able to frame architecture decisions in terms of customer outcomes, risk, cost, time-to-market, and operational impact.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, And Skills
- Experience modernizing legacy ecosystems (strangler patterns, platform migration, event-driven architectures, API standardization, domain data products).
- Experience designing and scaling AI-enabled capabilities in regulated environments (governance, model risk, data privacy, prompt/context design, evaluation/monitoring).
- Familiarity with microservices, Kubernetes, cloud/hybrid patterns, streaming platforms, identity/access controls, and enterprise observability.
- Track record of building architecture communities of practice and mentoring architects/engineers.

Align your resume to JPMorganChase infrastructure language
JPMorganChase job postings for Principal DevOps roles consistently emphasize cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, and financial-grade security compliance. Mirror that language in your resume before applying so your credentials map directly to their technical requirements.
Target roles in technology infrastructure divisions
JPMorganChase's largest DevOps hiring concentrates in its Corporate and Investment Bank and Consumer and Community Banking technology teams. Filtering your search to those business lines increases your chances of landing a role with active visa sponsorship bandwidth.
Clarify your visa category early in interviews
JPMorganChase's immigration team handles H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visa filings differently. If you hold an E-3 or H-1B1 eligibility, raise it with your recruiter before the offer stage so the correct petition type gets initiated without delay.
Prepare for a multi-round technical assessment process
Principal-level DevOps candidates at JPMorganChase typically face system design rounds focused on large-scale distributed systems and financial data pipeline reliability. Document concrete examples of infrastructure you've owned end-to-end, not just contributed to, before interviews begin.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline before your start date
If you need a new H-1B and aren't cap-exempt, USCIS registration opens in March with an October 1 start date. Build that gap into your offer negotiation with JPMorganChase so both sides have realistic expectations about when employment can begin.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Principal DevOps roles
Identifying which JPMorganChase postings are actively open to visa sponsorship takes time. Use Migrate Mate to filter Principal DevOps Engineer listings at JPMorganChase by visa type so you apply only to roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does JPMorganChase sponsor H-1B visas for Principal Devops Engineers?
Yes, JPMorganChase sponsors H-1B visas for Principal DevOps Engineers. The firm has an established immigration program that handles petitions for technology roles at the principal level. Because H-1B sponsorship is decided at the business unit level, confirming sponsorship availability with your specific recruiting team during the interview process is the most reliable approach.
How do I apply for Principal Devops Engineer jobs at JPMorganChase?
You can apply directly through JPMorganChase's careers site or use Migrate Mate to browse Principal DevOps Engineer openings filtered by visa sponsorship type. When applying, tailor your application to the specific business line posting the role, as technology infrastructure teams within JPMorganChase hire somewhat independently and have different technical priorities.
Which visa types does JPMorganChase commonly use for Principal Devops Engineer roles?
JPMorganChase sponsors H-1B, H-1B1 visa, and E-3 visas for Principal DevOps Engineers, as well as employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The E-3 visa is available exclusively to Australian citizens and offers a faster, cap-independent path. H-1B1 is available to citizens of Chile and Singapore. Which visa applies depends on your nationality and current immigration status.
What qualifications does JPMorganChase expect for a Principal Devops Engineer?
JPMorganChase's Principal DevOps Engineer postings consistently require significant experience with cloud infrastructure at enterprise scale, container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, and CI/CD automation in regulated environments. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related engineering field is standard, and many roles in financial services require familiarity with compliance and security frameworks specific to the industry.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at JPMorganChase for this role?
Timeline depends heavily on visa type. An E-3 or H-1B1 visa petition can move to approval in a matter of weeks since neither is subject to a lottery. A cap-subject H-1B follows USCIS's annual cycle, with registration in March and an earliest start date of October 1. USCIS premium processing is available for H-1B petitions and can reduce adjudication to 15 business days once filed.
