Overview
We are hiring a CMM Quality Technician to serve as the gatekeeper of precision for our high-mix, low-volume machining operations. This is not a role for someone who just wants to load a part, push a button, and wait for a green light. We need a critical thinker who understands how to measure, not just how to operate a machine.
You will work primarily with Zeiss CMMs and Keyence vision systems, but you must be equally skilled with manual inspection tools. In our shop, the CMM is a tool, not a crutch; we expect you to have the skill to manually validate results, troubleshoot discrepancies, and verify "tenths" tolerances (.0001”) with confidence.
You will work directly with our quality engineer and our machinists. We are building a culture where Quality and Manufacturing work as a team to solve problems. If you are hungry to learn, possess strong mechanical aptitude, and want to grow your skills in a high-tech environment, we want to talk.
COMPENSATION
- $28 - $36 / hr
- Consistent overtime available
SHIFTS
- Day Shift (4 x 10s), Monday - Thursday
- 6:00am - 4:30pm
CONSISTENT OVERTIME
- 10+ hours / week for those who want it
BENEFITS:
- Medical, dental, vision
- 401(k) with match
- PTO
Responsibilities
Precision Inspection & CMM Operation
- Set up and operate Zeiss CMMs using Calypso software and Keyence vision systems.
- Perform rigorous manual inspection to validate CMM data using micrometers, indicators, height gages, and surface plates.
- Inspect complex, high-precision parts with 100+ features and tight tolerances (down to .0001” / 13 microns).
- Verify part hygiene prior to inspection: Ensure parts are clean, deburred, and fixtures are free of debris to guarantee accurate data.
Problem Solving & Process
- Investigate "out of spec" findings: Determine if the error lies in the part, the fixture, the probe, or the program.
- Interpret complex technical drawings and apply GD&T principles (True Position, Parallelism, Perpendicularity, Flatness, Concentricity).
- Seamlessly switch between Metric and Imperial systems, understanding the conversion factors intuitively.
- Collaborate with machinists on the floor to explain results, help troubleshoot process variations, and achieve first-article success.
Documentation & Growth
- Document inspection results clearly for internal records and customer requirements (FAIs/Inspection Reports).
- Maintain calibration status of local measurement tools.
- Growth Opportunity: While not required immediately, there is a strong pathway to learn CMM programming for candidates who demonstrate aptitude.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
- Experience: 3+ years in precision quality control (or strong machining background with a desire to switch to Quality). We are open to "hungry" junior candidates with strong fundamentals.
- Tech Stack: Experience operating Zeiss CMMs (Calypso) is highly preferred. Experience with Keyence systems is a plus.
- Manual Skills: You must trust your hands as much as the machine. Proficiency with surface plate inspection and hand tools is non-negotiable.
- GD&T: Strong ability to read blueprints and understand geometric tolerances beyond just simple dimensions.
- Math: Ability to fluently convert between Metric and Imperial units.
- Mindset: High "EQ" and communication skills. You must be able to deliver bad news to a machinist constructively and work together to fix it.
- Physical: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
BENEFITS:
- Medical, dental, vision
- 401(k) with match
- PTO

Align your credentials with staffing placements
laborup fills Quality Technician roles for client sites, so your resume needs to speak to the end employer's industry, not just the staffing firm. Highlight inspection tools, quality standards like ISO or AS9100, and any manufacturing environments you've worked in.
Time your OPT application before placement gaps appear
F-1 OPT has a 90-day unemployment limit. If a staffing placement ends between client assignments, those days count against you. File your OPT extension or STEM OPT through your DSO early, and keep placement continuity in mind when evaluating contract lengths.
Target laborup openings that list direct client industries
Quality Technician postings through staffing firms vary widely by client sector. Filter for roles specifying aerospace, medical device, or automotive manufacturing, where specialty occupation arguments for H-1B are stronger and TN eligibility under industrial engineering is more defensible.
Use Migrate Mate to surface laborup Quality Technician roles
Filter by employer and visa type on Migrate Mate to find active Quality Technician openings at laborup that explicitly list H-1B, OPT, or TN sponsorship, so you're not applying blind to postings that won't support your status.
Prepare for USCIS specialty occupation scrutiny early
USCIS often questions whether Quality Technician roles meet the H-1B specialty occupation standard. Before your employer files Form I-129, gather job postings from DOL's O*NET showing degree requirements and document how your specific duties require a bachelor's-level technical discipline.

Find Quality Technician at laborup JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does laborup sponsor H-1B visas for Quality Technicians?
Yes, laborup has sponsored H-1B visas for Quality Technician roles. Because laborup is a staffing firm, they act as your employer of record, which means they file and maintain the H-1B petition rather than the client site. Confirm this arrangement in writing before accepting an offer, and ask specifically whether they cover USCIS filing fees or pass costs to you.
How do I apply for Quality Technician jobs at laborup?
Search for Quality Technician openings on Migrate Mate, filtering by laborup and your visa type, to find roles that explicitly list sponsorship eligibility. When you apply, include specific quality systems experience (ISO, Six Sigma, GD&T) and name the industries you've supported. Staffing recruiters move quickly, so responding to outreach within 24 hours improves your placement odds significantly.
Which visa types are commonly used for Quality Technician roles at laborup?
laborup sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Quality Technician positions. F-1 CPT and OPT are the most common entry points since they require less employer lead time. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals if the role maps to an eligible USMCA occupation category such as industrial engineer. H-1B is viable but requires annual cap registration in March.
What qualifications does laborup expect for Quality Technician roles?
Most Quality Technician openings through laborup require familiarity with inspection equipment (calipers, CMM, micrometers), documentation of nonconformances, and experience in a regulated manufacturing environment. A degree in engineering technology, mechanical engineering, or a related field strengthens both your candidacy and the H-1B specialty occupation argument. Certifications like CQT from ASQ can offset limited degree-to-role alignment.
How do visa sponsorship timelines work for Quality Technician placements at laborup?
For OPT and CPT, authorization comes through your school's DSO and typically takes two to four weeks, so start before your current work authorization expires. TN can be approved at a port of entry the same day for Canadians. H-1B requires a lottery in March for an October 1 start date, so placements mid-year depend on a cap-exempt filing or a transfer from an existing approved petition.
