Align Your Degree to Semiconductor Equipment Domains
Lam's Customer Support Engineer roles typically require a degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. Before applying, confirm your credential maps directly to the role's technical scope, since H-1B approval hinges on that degree-to-job-duty alignment.
Target Lam Postings Near Major Fab Corridors
Lam's customer support headcount clusters around fabs in Arizona, Oregon, and Texas. Prioritizing openings in these regions shortens your hiring timeline, since local teams often have established sponsorship workflows and shorter onboarding cycles than newer office locations.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Active Sponsorship Openings
Not every Lam job listing signals active visa support. Use Migrate Mate to surface Customer Support Engineer roles where Lam has a verified sponsorship history, so you apply where your visa situation is already accounted for in the hiring process.
Start OPT Before Your Program Ends
If you're on F-1 status, apply for OPT through your DSO at least 90 days before graduation. Lam hires CPT and OPT candidates into customer support roles, but hardware-intensive positions require on-site presence from day one, so gaps in work authorization can delay your start date.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Ask the recruiter whether the offer includes both H-1B filing and eventual Green Card sponsorship through PERM. For a field-based role like Customer Support Engineer, confirming the long-term pathway upfront prevents surprises after your H-1B extensions run out.
Prepare Field Experience Documentation Early
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation evidence for hands-on engineering roles. Compile performance reviews, project logs, and equipment certification records that demonstrate degree-level judgment, not just task execution. This documentation strengthens your I-129 petition if your employer needs to respond to an RFE.

Does Lam Research sponsor H-1B visas for Customer Support Engineers?
Yes, Lam Research sponsors H-1B visas for Customer Support Engineers. The company files petitions through the standard USCIS cap process and has a consistent pattern of supporting this role category. If you're already H-1B eligible or in a cap-exempt situation, Lam can also file outside the lottery window.
Which visa types does Lam Research commonly use for Customer Support Engineer roles?
Lam Research supports H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. F-1 OPT is common for recent engineering graduates entering the role, while H-1B and eventually PERM-based Green Card sponsorship apply to longer-term hires in the customer support function.
What qualifications does Lam Research expect for Customer Support Engineer positions?
Lam typically expects a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline. Hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication equipment, vacuum systems, or RF components is valued. Field-based troubleshooting ability matters as much as academic credentials, since the role involves direct on-site support at customer fabs.
How do I apply for Customer Support Engineer jobs at Lam Research?
You can find and apply for Customer Support Engineer openings at Lam Research through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with a verified visa sponsorship history. Apply with a resume that highlights equipment-specific experience and degree-to-role alignment. Reach out directly to Lam's technical recruiting team if your target location is a high-demand fab corridor like Arizona or Oregon.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship to work at Lam Research?
The H-1B cap lottery opens each March for an October 1 start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, you have up to 12 months of work authorization, extended to 36 months with a STEM extension, which gives you time to bridge through the lottery cycle. Start conversations with Lam's recruiting team well before your OPT expiration so the petition is ready to file in March.
