Get Your NCLEX and Credentials Verified Early
Oregon requires RN licensure before you can start, so submit your credentials to the Oregon State Board of Nursing well ahead of any offer. International nursing degrees often need a course-by-course evaluation, which can take six to eight weeks.
Target Legacy's High-Volume Units First
Legacy Health's med-surg and critical care units run the most open RN Staff Nurse postings. Applying to roles in these units gives you the widest shot at a sponsoring manager, rather than niche specialty floors with limited openings.
Ask Recruiters About H-1B Timing Before Signing
If you need H-1B sponsorship, confirm whether Legacy plans to file during the next cap-season lottery or use a cap-exempt route. Hospitals affiliated with nonprofit research or teaching functions can sometimes file outside the annual April window.
Understand How J-1 Waiver Status Affects Your Offer
If you're finishing a J-1 exchange program, Legacy Health can sponsor a J-1 waiver through the Conrad 30 program, but you'll need to negotiate this before signing. Oregon's Conrad slots fill quickly, so start the conversation at least four months before your DS-2019 expires.
Browse Legacy Health RN Openings on Migrate Mate
Search Legacy Health's RN Staff Nurse listings on Migrate Mate to filter by visa type before applying. Seeing which specific roles and units are actively open helps you prioritize outreach and avoid applying to positions that aren't set up for sponsorship.
Prepare for DOL Prevailing Wage Documentation
Legacy Health must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing rate for RNs in the Portland metro area. Review Oregon wage data yourself so you can evaluate whether any offer aligns with what USCIS and DOL will require.

Does Legacy Health sponsor H-1B visas for RN Staff Nurses?
Yes, Legacy Health has sponsored H-1B visas for RN Staff Nurses. As a healthcare system, Legacy can potentially file H-1B petitions outside the standard cap if it qualifies through affiliated nonprofit or research entities, though eligibility depends on the specific facility. Confirm cap-exempt status directly with their HR or immigration team during the offer process.
How do I apply for RN Staff Nurse jobs at Legacy Health?
Applications go through Legacy Health's careers portal, where RN Staff Nurse roles are posted by unit and facility. Before applying, verify that your Oregon RN license is active or in process, since Legacy requires licensure before a start date. Migrate Mate also lists Legacy Health's open RN positions filtered by visa sponsorship type, which can help you identify the right role faster.
Which visa types does Legacy Health commonly use for RN Staff Nurses?
Legacy Health has worked with H-1B, TN, J-1, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT visa holders for nursing roles. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican RNs under USMCA and are simpler to process than H-1B. J-1 is common for nurses in exchange programs, while OPT applies to foreign-educated nurses who completed a U.S. nursing degree.
What qualifications does Legacy Health expect for RN Staff Nurse candidates?
Legacy Health expects candidates to hold an active Oregon RN license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an Associate Degree in Nursing with a BSN commitment, and current BLS certification. Many units, particularly critical care and emergency, also require ACLS. For international applicants, a credential evaluation from a CGFNS-approved organization is standard before licensure.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for international RN candidates?
Timelines vary by visa type. TN visas can be processed at the border in a single day for eligible Canadian and Mexican nurses. H-1B sponsorship tied to the annual cap has a several-month window from lottery registration in March to an October start date. J-1 Conrad 30 waivers typically take three to four months through USCIS after state recommendation. Build in extra time for Oregon Board of Nursing licensing if your credentials are from outside the U.S.
