Verify your credentials meet Oregon licensing requirements
Oregon requires ECFMG certification and completion of a U.S. or Canadian residency before you can apply for a medical license. Confirm your credentials are eligible before targeting Legacy Health roles to avoid late-stage delays.
Target Legacy Health's specialty and hospitalist openings
Legacy Health consistently posts Physician openings across hospital medicine, primary care, and specialty departments. Focusing your applications on departments with sustained hiring activity gives you the best chance of landing a role with sponsorship support.
Clarify visa type early in the interview process
Legacy Health sponsors multiple visa categories including H-1B, TN visa, and J-1. Raise your visa type directly with the recruiter before the offer stage so the right petitioning process is lined up and filing timelines are built into your start date.
Understand how J-1 waiver status affects H-1B timing
If you completed a J-1 residency with a two-year home residency requirement, you'll need a waiver before Legacy Health can file an H-1B on your behalf. Conrad 30 waivers through Oregon are one pathway, and processing can take several months.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Legacy Health Physician openings
Browse current Physician roles at Legacy Health with visa sponsorship filters applied using Migrate Mate. It surfaces positions matched to your authorization type so you're not applying blind to roles that won't support your visa category.
Confirm USCIS prevailing wage compliance before signing
For H-1B and TN petitions, DOL requires your offered salary to meet the prevailing wage for the specific Physician specialty and geographic area. Review the wage determination with your immigration attorney before countersigning any employment agreement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Legacy Health sponsor H-1B visas for Physicians?
Yes, Legacy Health sponsors H-1B visas for Physician roles. As a large hospital network, it has the infrastructure to support the employer-filed H-1B petition process, including Labor Condition Application filing through DOL. If you're on OPT or another nonimmigrant status, raise visa sponsorship needs with your recruiter early so the timeline aligns with your current authorization.
How do I apply for Physician jobs at Legacy Health?
Applications go through Legacy Health's careers portal, where roles are listed by department and location across its Portland-area hospitals. For international applicants, Migrate Mate is a reliable way to filter and find current Legacy Health Physician openings that support visa sponsorship, helping you avoid roles where sponsorship isn't on the table before you invest time in applying.
Which visa types does Legacy Health commonly use for Physician roles?
Legacy Health sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Physician positions. J-1 visa is frequently used for Physicians completing residency or fellowship training, while H-1B and TN are the primary pathways for attending-level roles. Canadian and Mexican Physicians in qualifying specialties can use the TN visa, which doesn't require an employer petition filed with USCIS.
What qualifications does Legacy Health expect for Physician roles?
Legacy Health expects board certification or active board eligibility in the relevant specialty, ECFMG certification for international medical graduates, and an Oregon medical license or eligibility to obtain one. Most roles require completion of accredited U.S. or Canadian residency training. Some positions, particularly in hospital medicine or primary care, may also expect prior clinical experience in a U.S. health system.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship from Legacy Health?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with USCIS opening registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you miss the annual lottery cycle, you're waiting a full year unless a cap-exempt pathway applies. Physicians employed at qualifying nonprofit hospitals or academic medical centers may be cap-exempt, which is worth clarifying with Legacy Health's HR team before assuming you need to wait for the next lottery.
