Verify Your Clinical Credentials Transfer Correctly
Healthcare licensing boards in Oregon and Washington evaluate foreign credentials differently. Before applying, confirm your clinical training and certifications meet state-level requirements for the Clinical Assistant scope of practice Legacy Health defines in its job postings.
Target Legacy Health's High-Volume Hiring Sites
Legacy Health operates multiple hospitals and outpatient clinics across Portland and the surrounding region. Applying to openings at flagship facilities like Legacy Emanuel or Legacy Good Samaritan gives you the best exposure to the clinical teams that hire most frequently for this role.
Address Sponsorship Directly in Your Cover Letter
Healthcare recruiters at large health systems often screen applications before involving HR. State your visa status clearly and confirm you're seeking sponsorship. Ambiguity at the application stage causes delays that can cost you an offer in a competitive hiring cycle.
Clarify Which Visa Types Legacy Health Will File
Legacy Health sponsors multiple visa categories for clinical roles. Once you reach the offer stage, ask HR whether they'll file your specific visa type, confirm they use E-Verify, and establish whether they have in-house immigration counsel or use an outside firm to manage USCIS petitions.
Time Your J-1 or OPT Applications Around Clinical Hiring Cycles
Healthcare hiring for clinical support roles at health systems like Legacy often spikes in spring and late fall. If you're on F-1 OPT or J-1, align your application timeline so your authorization window covers the full onboarding period, which can run four to six weeks after an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsorship Listings
Not every Clinical Assistant posting at Legacy Health will explicitly mention sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to surface and track verified Legacy Health openings that match your visa type, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than guessing from the job description.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Legacy Health sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Assistants?
Yes, Legacy Health has sponsored H-1B visas for clinical support roles. Because Clinical Assistant positions vary in their degree requirements, eligibility for H-1B sponsorship depends on whether the specific role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. Confirm the educational requirements listed in your target job posting and discuss specialty occupation eligibility with Legacy Health's HR team before the offer stage.
Which visa types are commonly used for Clinical Assistant roles at Legacy Health?
Legacy Health sponsors H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT visa types for roles in this function. TN visa is a strong option for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying clinical credentials. J-1 visa is common for candidates entering through exchange or training programs. F-1 OPT works well for recent graduates who can cover the time between application and H-1B cap registration.
What qualifications and experience does Legacy Health expect for Clinical Assistant roles?
Legacy Health's Clinical Assistant postings typically require a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference for candidates who hold a medical assistant certification such as CMA or RMA. Hands-on clinical experience in a patient-facing setting, familiarity with electronic health records, and the ability to perform basic clinical procedures like vitals and phlebotomy are consistently listed as expectations across their open roles.
How do I apply for Clinical Assistant jobs at Legacy Health?
Applications go through Legacy Health's careers portal, where you'll create a profile and submit your resume and credentials directly. To find verified Clinical Assistant openings filtered by sponsorship eligibility, browse Migrate Mate before applying through the official portal. Tailor your resume to reflect the clinical skills and certifications listed in each specific posting, and be transparent about your visa status in your application.
How do I plan my timeline if I need sponsorship for a Clinical Assistant role at Legacy Health?
Build in time for both the hiring process and the visa filing process. Healthcare onboarding at a health system like Legacy can take four to six weeks after an offer, and H-1B cap petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If you're on OPT, confirm your expiration date covers that window. Start applying at least three to four months before your current authorization runs out.
