Verify Your Medical Credentials Before Applying
Legacy Health requires state medical licensure in Oregon or Washington before you start. If your degree is from a foreign institution, confirm ECFMG certification is current and your residency completion is documented in a format U.S. credentialing committees recognize.
Target Departments With Consistent Physician Openings
Legacy Health regularly posts Medical Doctor openings across hospitalist, primary care, and specialty departments. Prioritize departments with multiple concurrent postings, which signals ongoing staffing need and a higher likelihood the hiring team has navigated physician visa sponsorship before.
Understand How J-1 Waiver Status Affects Your Timeline
If you completed a J-1 residency or fellowship, you face a two-year home residency requirement unless you secure a waiver. Legacy Health can sponsor Conrad 30 or IGA waivers for physicians committing to underserved area service, but this process adds several months to your start date.
Ask About the LCA Filing During Offer Negotiation
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition reaches USCIS. Confirm with Legacy Health's HR team whether they use premium processing, since physician onboarding timelines often depend on how quickly that approval clears.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Legacy Health Physician Postings
Physician roles with visa sponsorship are not always labeled clearly on general job boards. Search Migrate Mate to filter Medical Doctor openings at Legacy Health by visa type, so you only apply to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Align Your TN Classification With Your Actual Role
Canadian and Mexican physicians can enter under TN status, but the role must match an eligible TN occupation precisely. Ensure your offer letter specifies the medical specialty and that your qualifications map to the classification USCIS and CBP officers will review at the port of entry.

Find Medical Doctor at Legacy Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Legacy Health sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Doctors?
Yes, Legacy Health sponsors H-1B visas for Medical Doctor positions. As a large nonprofit health system, Legacy Health qualifies as an H-1B employer and handles the petition process through its HR and legal teams. Physician roles typically meet the specialty occupation standard without issue, given the degree requirements involved.
Which visa types does Legacy Health commonly use for Medical Doctor roles?
Legacy Health sponsors H-1B visas for most international physicians, and also accepts candidates on F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and J-1 for physicians in waiver-eligible situations. If you completed a J-1 residency, confirm your waiver pathway with Legacy Health's recruiting team before applying.
What qualifications does Legacy Health expect for Medical Doctor positions?
Legacy Health expects full state medical licensure in Oregon or Washington, board certification or active board eligibility in your specialty, and ECFMG certification if your medical degree is from a non-U.S. or non-Canadian institution. Hospitalist and primary care roles may also require prior inpatient experience, while specialty roles have additional clinical criteria.
How do I apply for Medical Doctor jobs at Legacy Health?
Browse Medical Doctor openings at Legacy Health on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Submit your application through Legacy Health's careers portal with your CV, medical licensure details, and ECFMG certification if applicable. Physician recruiting teams typically follow up within two to three weeks for qualified candidates.
How do I plan my timeline for an H-1B-sponsored physician role at Legacy Health?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions follow USCIS's April 1 filing window, with an October 1 start date if selected. If you are changing status from F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT end date allows enough runway for lottery selection and petition approval. Physicians on cap-exempt pathways through a qualifying research or nonprofit affiliation can file year-round and typically see faster processing.
