Get your credentials verified before applying
Memorial Hermann operates Joint Commission-accredited facilities, so ECFMG certification and state medical licensure in Texas are non-negotiable prerequisites. Have your credentials verified and your USMLE steps documented before you reach the interview stage.
Target subspecialty openings with documented shortages
Health system hiring for physicians is driven by department need. Subspecialties like hospitalist medicine, neurology, and critical care tend to have persistent vacancies that make employers more willing to initiate H-1B sponsorship without hesitation.
Browse open physician roles through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Medical Doctor jobs by sponsorship history, so you can see Memorial Hermann openings specifically verified for visa-sponsored hiring rather than guessing which postings will support an H-1B or TN petition.
Clarify sponsorship terms during the offer negotiation
Ask directly whether Memorial Hermann will file as cap-subject or cap-exempt. As a nonprofit health system, it may qualify for the H-1B cap exemption, which means you can file outside the April lottery window and start sooner.
Prepare your PERM timeline expectations early
Physician PERM cases filed with DOL typically take longer when the employer must conduct supervised recruitment. Align with your immigration attorney at offer stage so your green card process can begin concurrently with your H-1B approval.

Find Medical Doctor at Memorial Hermann Health System JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Memorial Hermann Health System sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Doctors?
Yes, Memorial Hermann Health System sponsors H-1B visas for Medical Doctor roles. As a large nonprofit health system, it may qualify for the H-1B cap exemption under INA, which means eligible physicians can file year-round rather than waiting for the annual April lottery. Confirm cap-exempt status directly with your recruiter or the in-house immigration team during the offer process.
How do I apply for Medical Doctor jobs at Memorial Hermann Health System?
You can search and apply for Medical Doctor positions through Memorial Hermann's careers portal or browse visa-sponsorship-verified openings on Migrate Mate. Focus your application on roles matching your specialty and licensure. Having your ECFMG certification, Texas medical license, and board certification documentation ready before you apply will strengthen your candidacy and reduce delays if sponsorship is initiated.
Which visa types are commonly used for Medical Doctor roles at Memorial Hermann Health System?
The H-1B is the most common visa for physician roles at health systems like Memorial Hermann. F-1 OPT and CPT can bridge international medical graduates completing U.S.-based training programs. Canadian and Mexican citizens may qualify for TN status, which covers physicians under USMCA without requiring a lottery. The right visa type depends on your citizenship, training status, and intended start date.
What qualifications and experience does Memorial Hermann Health System expect for Medical Doctor roles?
Memorial Hermann expects candidates to hold an MD or DO degree, have completed U.S. or accredited international residency training, and hold or be eligible for Texas medical licensure. Board certification or active board eligibility is typically required. For international medical graduates, ECFMG certification is a firm requirement before credentialing can proceed at any Joint Commission-accredited facility.
How do I manage the timing between my visa filing and my physician start date at Memorial Hermann Health System?
Physician onboarding at large health systems involves credentialing, which can take 90 to 120 days independent of visa processing. If you're on F-1 OPT, factor in your OPT expiration alongside credentialing timelines. For H-1B transfers, USCIS allows you to begin work once a petition is filed if you're already in valid H-1B status. Align your immigration attorney and HR contact early to avoid gaps.
