Get Your NCLEX and Credentials Verified Early
Before applying, ensure your nursing license is active in Texas and your foreign credentials have been evaluated by a NACES-approved agency. Memorial Hermann expects clinical-ready candidates, so unresolved credential gaps will stall your application before sponsorship conversations begin.
Target Units With Persistent Staffing Needs
Focus your applications on Memorial Hermann's high-demand units like ICU, emergency, and surgical services. These departments see the most consistent openings and are more likely to have hiring managers familiar with sponsoring international nurses through H-1B or TN pathways.
Understand How TN Visa Works for Nurses
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, the TN visa applies to Registered Nurses and avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. Memorial Hermann has sponsored TN visas for nursing roles, and the process moves faster since there's no cap or petition queue to navigate.
Prepare for Prevailing Wage Requirements Upfront
For H-1B sponsorship, DOL requires your offered salary to meet the prevailing wage for Registered Nurses in the Houston metropolitan area. Review current wage levels on the DOL Foreign Labor Certification Data Center before your offer discussion so you're not surprised by the figure.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Sponsoring RN Roles
Filtering general job boards for visa-sponsoring hospital systems is unreliable. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified Registered Nurse openings at Memorial Hermann where sponsorship is confirmed, saving time you'd otherwise spend researching each listing individually.
Ask HR Specifically About F-1 OPT Timelines
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm Memorial Hermann is enrolled in E-Verify before accepting an offer, since STEM OPT extension requires it. Nursing does not typically qualify as a STEM field, so plan your H-1B filing timeline around your OPT expiration date carefully.

Find Registered Nurse at Memorial Hermann Health System JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Memorial Hermann Health System sponsor H-1B visas for Registered Nurses?
Yes, Memorial Hermann Health System sponsors H-1B visas for Registered Nurses. As a large health system with hospitals across the Houston area, they have an established process for filing H-1B petitions through USCIS. Sponsorship is typically initiated after a conditional offer, with the employer covering the petition filing on your behalf.
How do I apply for Registered Nurse jobs at Memorial Hermann Health System?
Applications go through Memorial Hermann's careers portal, where you can filter by nursing specialty and facility. Migrate Mate also lists verified Registered Nurse openings at Memorial Hermann where sponsorship has been confirmed, which makes it easier to identify the right roles without having to assess each posting manually. Have your Texas RN license and credential evaluation ready before applying.
Which visa types does Memorial Hermann Health System use for Registered Nurse roles?
Memorial Hermann sponsors H-1B visas for most international Registered Nurses. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican citizens, since Registered Nurse is an eligible TN occupation and the process bypasses the H-1B lottery. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for nursing students completing clinical requirements, though standard nursing degrees are not STEM-designated for OPT extension purposes.
What qualifications does Memorial Hermann Health System expect for Registered Nurse candidates?
You'll need an active Texas RN license or a multistate compact license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing for most hospital roles, and BLS certification at minimum. Specialty units such as ICU, NICU, or cardiac care typically require additional certifications like ACLS or PALS. International candidates should also have a completed credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized agency before their application is considered.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for Registered Nurses at Memorial Hermann?
For H-1B sponsorship, Memorial Hermann must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting the I-129 petition to USCIS. Standard USCIS processing runs several months, though premium processing can reduce that to 15 business days. For TN applicants, the timeline is much shorter since approval can happen at the port of entry. Plan for at least three to six months from offer to start date for H-1B cases.
