Align your degree to specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations. For Product Engineer positions at Thermo Fisher, a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, biomedical, or chemical engineering ties directly to that standard and strengthens your petition.
Target divisions with hardware and instrumentation pipelines
Thermo Fisher's analytical instruments and lab equipment divisions hire Product Engineers with hands-on product lifecycle experience. Roles tied to physical device development or manufacturing scale-up tend to have the clearest sponsorship precedent within the company.
Clarify CPT and OPT authorization early with your recruiter
F-1 students applying for internships or full-time Product Engineer roles should surface their authorization status in the first recruiter call. Thermo Fisher's hiring teams are experienced with OPT timelines, but starting the conversation late can stall offer paperwork.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Product Engineer roles by visa type
Thermo Fisher posts across multiple job boards, making it hard to identify which roles have active sponsorship intent. Migrate Mate filters Product Engineer listings at Thermo Fisher by the visa types the company sponsors, so you can apply to the right positions faster.
Time your H-1B petition around the April cap filing window
If you're moving from OPT to H-1B at Thermo Fisher, your employer must file the H-1B cap petition in April for an October 1 start date. Work backwards with HR at least three months ahead so the Labor Condition Application clears DOL before the USCIS submission window opens.

Find Product Engineer at Thermo Fisher Scientific JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsor H-1B visas for Product Engineers?
Yes, Thermo Fisher Scientific sponsors H-1B visas for Product Engineer roles. The company has a dedicated immigration support function and works with outside counsel to manage H-1B cap petitions and extensions. Product Engineer positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards due to the degree-specific nature of the work, particularly in instrumentation, device development, and manufacturing engineering.
How do I apply for Product Engineer jobs at Thermo Fisher Scientific?
You can apply directly through Thermo Fisher's careers portal at thermofisher.com/careers. To find roles already filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility, Migrate Mate lists open Product Engineer positions at Thermo Fisher alongside the visa types the company supports, which saves time if you need confirmation of sponsorship before applying.
Which visa types does Thermo Fisher Scientific commonly use for Product Engineers?
Thermo Fisher sponsors H-1B visas for full-time Product Engineers and supports F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for students and recent graduates. For longer-term immigration, the company has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM labor certification. TN visas are also available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles.
What qualifications does Thermo Fisher Scientific expect for Product Engineer roles?
Most Product Engineer roles at Thermo Fisher require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, biomedical, or chemical engineering. Roles tied to lab instruments or life science equipment often expect experience with product lifecycle management, design for manufacturability, or regulatory documentation such as design history files. Advanced degrees can strengthen both the application and the H-1B specialty occupation classification.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Product Engineer at Thermo Fisher?
For cap-subject H-1B petitions, USCIS requires filing in April for an October 1 start date, meaning the total timeline from offer to authorized start can run six months or more. STEM OPT extensions typically process within three to five months if filed at least 90 days before expiration. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship adds a separate multi-year track depending on your country of birth and EB category.
