Align your credentials to UNT's standards
UNT education roles typically require U.S.-equivalent degrees verified through a credential evaluation. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying, not after you receive an offer.
Target roles with multi-year funding
Faculty and research positions tied to grants or tenure lines are more likely to support H-1B sponsorship than short-term lecturer contracts. Focus your search on tenure-track or long-term research appointments where UNT has an incentive to invest in the visa process.
Search UNT education openings on Migrate Mate
Filter by visa type to find University of North Texas education roles where sponsorship is confirmed. Migrate Mate surfaces positions by sponsorship history, so you can prioritize applications where international candidates have been hired before.
Understand how UNT files H-1B petitions
UNT, as a higher education institution, is exempt from the H-1B annual cap. This means petitions can be filed at any time of year, not just during the April lottery window. You don't need to wait for a specific filing season to pursue a role.
Ask about PERM timing during offer negotiations
If your goal is a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, ask UNT's HR or Office of International Education how early they typically begin the PERM labor certification process. Some universities start within the first year of employment; others wait until year two or three.
Prepare for the LCA prevailing wage requirement
Before UNT files your H-1B petition, DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application confirming your salary meets the prevailing wage for your role and location. Review the DOL Foreign Labor Certification wage database beforehand so you know what to expect and can flag any discrepancies early.

Find Education at University of North Texas JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of North Texas sponsor H-1B visas for Education roles?
Yes. As a public higher education institution, University of North Texas is a cap-exempt H-1B employer, meaning petitions for qualifying faculty, research, and administrative education roles can be filed year-round without waiting for the annual lottery. This gives international candidates a significant scheduling advantage compared to private-sector employers subject to the H-1B cap.
Which visa types are commonly used for Education roles at University of North Texas?
H-1B is the primary work visa for full-time education roles at UNT. J-1 is commonly used for visiting scholars, postdoctoral researchers, and exchange faculty. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying education occupations. For students transitioning into staff or faculty roles, F-1 OPT and CPT provide work authorization while a longer-term petition is filed.
What qualifications are expected for Education roles at University of North Texas?
Requirements vary by role type. Tenure-track faculty positions typically require a terminal degree in the relevant discipline, a research record, and teaching experience. Administrative and staff education roles may require a master's degree and relevant professional experience. Foreign degrees are accepted but generally need to be verified as U.S.-equivalent through a recognized credential evaluation service before your application is considered complete.
How do I apply for Education jobs at University of North Texas?
Applications are submitted through UNT's official HR portal, where each posting lists required documents including a CV, cover letter, and transcripts. To find education roles at UNT that have a confirmed sponsorship track record, browse Migrate Mate and filter by employer and visa type. Applying through positions where international candidates have previously been sponsored improves your chances of a smoother process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a UNT Education role?
Once you have an offer, UNT typically needs several weeks to prepare and file the Labor Condition Application with DOL, which must be certified before the H-1B petition goes to USCIS. Standard USCIS processing runs three to six months. Premium processing, if UNT elects to use it, reduces that to about 15 business days. Starting the process as early as possible after your offer is finalized is critical.
