Align your credentials with U.S. standards
UNT Instructor postings typically require a master's degree minimum, often in the teaching discipline itself. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applying so hiring committees can assess equivalency quickly.
Target departments with recurring Instructor openings
UNT consistently posts Instructor vacancies in high-enrollment departments like English, mathematics, and business. Narrowing your search to these areas increases your chances of landing in a hiring pipeline that already has institutional familiarity with sponsorship processes.
Understand which visa fits your teaching appointment
UNT sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT or CPT for Instructor roles. J-1 is common for short-term visiting faculty, while H-1B suits multi-year appointments. TN is available if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship and your discipline appears on the USMCA qualifying list.
Initiate sponsorship conversations during the offer stage
Do not wait for onboarding to raise visa needs. Once you receive a verbal offer, ask the hiring department to loop in UNT's international services office immediately. H-1B petitions require DOL Labor Condition Application certification before USCIS filing, and that timeline starts from day one.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Instructor roles at UNT
Instructor positions at UNT are posted across multiple portals and close quickly. Use Migrate Mate to filter for UNT Instructor openings that include visa sponsorship, so you're applying to roles where international candidates are genuinely considered from the start.
Prepare your teaching portfolio before interviews
UNT Instructor interviews frequently include a sample lecture or review of syllabi you have designed. Having a polished teaching statement and course materials ready signals readiness to contribute immediately, which matters when a department is also navigating sponsorship timelines alongside hiring.

Find Instructor at University of North Texas JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of North Texas sponsor H-1B visas for Instructors?
Yes, University of North Texas sponsors H-1B visas for Instructor roles. UNT's international services office manages the petition process, which requires the department to file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS adjudicates the H-1B. Because Instructor positions qualify as specialty occupations requiring a relevant degree, they are well-suited to the H-1B classification.
How do I apply for Instructor jobs at University of North Texas?
Applications are submitted through UNT's official careers portal, where each Instructor posting lists required materials, typically a CV, cover letter, teaching statement, and transcripts. Roles close on posted deadlines, so applying early matters. You can also browse UNT Instructor openings filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility through Migrate Mate to identify positions where international candidates are actively considered.
Which visa types does University of North Texas commonly use for Instructor roles?
UNT uses several visa categories depending on the appointment type. H-1B covers most full-time Instructor positions. TN is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying disciplines. J-1 is common for visiting or exchange faculty on shorter appointments. F-1 OPT and CPT allow recent graduates to work while degree-related authorization remains valid, though these are time-limited pathways.
What qualifications does University of North Texas expect for Instructor positions?
Most UNT Instructor postings require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant discipline, with some departments preferring a terminal degree such as a Ph.D. or MFA. Teaching experience at the college level is commonly expected. For international candidates, foreign transcripts should be accompanied by a NACES-approved credential evaluation to demonstrate U.S. degree equivalency during the review process.
How do I know if my visa timeline aligns with a UNT Instructor start date?
H-1B processing at USCIS typically takes three to five months without premium processing, which expedites adjudication to around 15 business days for an additional fee. TN authorization for Canadians can be obtained at the border, making it faster. J-1 DS-2019 issuance depends on UNT's international office timeline. Raise your visa situation with the department as soon as an offer is extended to avoid start-date conflicts.
