Students in the Humanities Division of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences pursue their passions while also acquiring the tools needed to thrive in tomorrow’s careers. Position Overview
The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of North Texas is seeking a part-time Adjunct Instructor to teach courses in American Sign Language (ASL) within our growing ASL program. This is an exciting time to join the program, which currently offers a full ASL language sequence and is launching a new Minor in ASL Interpreting Studies in Fall 2027. We are especially interested in candidates who are Deaf or hard of hearing and bring native or near-native fluency in ASL along with lived cultural expertise.
Responsibilities
- Teach one or more sections of undergraduate ASL courses, such as ASL I–IV, following the department's established curriculum and course objectives.
- Deliver instruction primarily in ASL, fostering an immersive language-learning environment.
- Assess student progress in receptive and expressive ASL skills through structured assignments, quizzes, and in-class evaluation.
- Incorporate Deaf culture, community norms, and current events into instruction.
- Hold regular office hours and respond to student communication in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate attendance and grade records using the university's learning management system.
- Participate in occasional program meetings and curriculum discussions.
