Align Your Credentials with UNT's Specialty Occupation Standard
H-1B eligibility for adjunct roles requires your degree to directly match the subject you'll teach. Before applying, verify that your highest credential aligns precisely with the course discipline listed in the posting, not just a broadly related field.
Target Departments with Recurring Adjunct Openings
UNT's College of Education, College of Business, and Toulouse Graduate School post adjunct roles across multiple semesters. Tracking openings in high-turnover departments improves your odds of landing a position with enough course load to justify sponsorship.
Clarify Sponsorship Willingness Before Accepting an Offer
Adjunct contracts at UNT are typically semester-based, so confirm in writing that the department intends to extend your contract before USCIS filing deadlines. A short initial contract can complicate H-1B petition timelines if renewal is uncertain.
Understand How J-1 Scholar Status Fits Adjunct Teaching
J-1 is a common entry point for international faculty at UNT and can be sponsored faster than H-1B. If you hold a research or visiting scholar J-1, check whether your two-year home residency requirement would block an H-1B transition before starting the process.
Use Migrate Mate to Identify Active Adjunct Openings at UNT
Adjunct postings at UNT are distributed across departmental sites and the main HR portal, making them easy to miss. Search Migrate Mate to surface current visa-sponsoring adjunct roles at UNT filtered by visa type, so you apply during active hiring windows.
Prepare for PERM Labor Certification If Targeting Permanent Residency
If your goal is an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card through UNT, the DOL's PERM process requires the university to conduct a formal recruitment effort. Adjunct roles rarely initiate this independently, so you'll need to raise the conversation with your hiring department early.

Find Adjunct Instructor at University of North Texas JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of North Texas sponsor H-1B visas for Adjunct Instructors?
Yes, UNT sponsors H-1B visas for Adjunct Instructor roles when the position qualifies as a specialty occupation and the department has a sustained need for your expertise. Because adjunct contracts are semester-based, UNT's international services office typically requires confirmation of an ongoing teaching assignment before initiating the petition with USCIS.
How do I apply for Adjunct Instructor jobs at University of North Texas?
Applications go through UNT's official HR portal, but adjunct openings are also posted at the department level, so it helps to monitor individual college websites alongside the central listings. You can also browse active Adjunct Instructor openings at UNT filtered by visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles you might otherwise miss across multiple departments.
Which visa types are commonly used for Adjunct Instructor roles at University of North Texas?
H-1B and J-1 are the most common pathways for international adjunct faculty at UNT. J-1 Scholar status is often faster to arrange and well-suited to visiting or part-time teaching assignments. F-1 OPT and CPT can cover adjunct work if you're currently enrolled or recently graduated. TN is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying academic roles.
What qualifications does University of North Texas expect for Adjunct Instructor positions?
Most Adjunct Instructor postings at UNT require at minimum a master's degree in the relevant subject area, with a doctorate preferred for graduate-level courses. For H-1B purposes, your degree must correspond directly to the specific discipline you're hired to teach. Professional licensure or industry experience may supplement academic credentials in applied fields like business or engineering technology.
How do I understand the timeline for H-1B sponsorship as an Adjunct Instructor at UNT?
UNT can file an H-1B petition with USCIS at any time as a cap-exempt institution of higher education, meaning you're not subject to the annual April lottery or October start date. Standard processing runs three to five months, and premium processing reduces that to 15 business days. You'll need an active teaching contract and a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before the petition is submitted.
